47 1-Ton to S10 build

I've been working on this for a year or so. Blasted and painted the frame, added an air bag suspension with drop spindles and welded in a 4 Link.

The engine is 2005 Tahoe 5.3, the transmission is a 4L80E from a 1 Ton. Fitting since the 5 window was originally a 1 ton truck.

Here is what I started with was a driver in decent shape:

Here is where I'm at now:

I love the way that will sit. The running boards will definitely be on the ground. Nice build.

thanks, here's a shot of the firewall with all the holes welded up.

My favorite, this shot shows how I swapped out frames notice the chain saw.

Another side shot.

Pretty slick truck. But I wish I had that flatbed for my 51 1-1/2 ton.

Re: 47 1-Ton to S10 build

Shot of the frame after it was sandblasted. I painted with black satin chassis paint from Eastwood.

The 4 link is generic kit you can get on epay, has nylon bushings, chrome ends, powder coated arms and mounting brackets.

Re: 47 1-Ton to S10 build

Nope, the doors look to be off a 52-54. A 47 wouldn't have the vent windows or the push-button handles.

Did you do any firewall mods for clearance for the 5.3?

Re: 47 1-Ton to S10 build

Someone probably changed the doors along the way. Truck is a 47.
No mods to the firewall, valve cover is probably 3/4" from the firewall

Re: 47 1-Ton to S10 build

I have a battery tray was looking for a good place to hang it, thought about the frame but since the truck will sit so low it will be tough to get at. I don't want it on the firewall.

I thought about putting it behind the seat? Easy to get at and won't clutter the engine compartment.

Looks great. I hope I don't regret not going with air-bags from the beginning.

Nice build so far. Are you gonna put another flat bed on or are you gonna find a full bed for it?

Going with a standard 1/2 ton bed.

Re: 47 1-Ton to S10 build

Do you have a 'Big Bolt' front end sheet metal on that truck? It kind of looks like it one the one photo of the before state. I'm curious if you do are you planning to run that on the S10 or swap out for a standard front end sheet metal? If you have a standard front end you can just disregard my ramblings!

Not sure what you mean by 'big bolt', I'm using the same front clip the truck came with?

The 'big bolt' front sheet metal is the version of fenders and hood that came on the really big trucks. I'm getting mixed comments on whether it was the 1ton and up or the 1.5 ton and up trucks that had it. The wheel wheels were wider for a wider track width and they had a larger wheel opening arch in the fenders. the hoods were also slightly different.

I think this one is still the standard size, with the 41-46 it was a little more noticeable. The only noticeable difference on this cab that I could tell was the rear center cab mount.
