Painting the Top a different color, can it be done?

Question for you guys. Currently my top is black, is it do-able to paint the top white? i just think a white top would look better. Best way to do it if possible.

There was an in-depth thread on here some time ago that covered an owner painting his top with a special paint. Good info. You might try searching for it.

Re: Painting the Top a different color, can it be done?

Here's a thread I found very helpful:

http://67-72chevytrucks.com/vboard/s...d.php?t=571041

...not so much about the color, but materials and techniques. There are definitely more threads about this though.

...and not to hijack the thread, but were there any other interior colors besides red that came from the factory with color keyed double wall tops? I've seen several red (pic below) including asolde's 69. I vaguely remember seeing a gold one on eBay, but can't find a pic.

All 1969 Blazers had the interior of the top matched to the exterior of the truck.

Working on my double wall top now, it was white, sanded off top coat and texture got down to SMC dark gray. Shot a couple coats of Southern Poly Urethane white Epoxy. Came out decent, still undecided about top coat, it will not be textured.

I used a boat deck paint (white) when I redid mine. Rolled it on over the original white. Looked great, very durable. Got the paint at West Marine.

My top is black too. The PO smoothed it out and added black gloss paint. I want to go back to the textured white too. I was thinking about have it sprayed with Line X and then painting it white. Thoughts??

I used trunk paint...you know the splatter stuff that comes out with black and gray specks in it. Dup-li-color I think. That will give you the texture and then just top coat with your color of choice. Worked perfect. Cheap too cause its all rattle can.

Hey Guys, finished mine early this year! Smooth with gloss black, love the look!! But ALOT of work. I'm not a professional, but it took me 3-1/2 months (complete top restoration)

Line-X is now available to color match and a UV top coat to keep from fading. I havent addressed my top yet, but my entire Blazer was Line-Xed in White outside and black inside. Not finished yet, but find a local Line-X dealer and talk to them.
