Fittings new fenders on 49

Gonna be fitting the new front fenders. I have some material to go between fender & body. I take it this go's near the door. This piece of material is straight but it has a raised edge on one side. Can anyone tell me which way round it should go before I punch the holes in it? Thanks

The bead goes to the outside. Here's an article that tells how to do it:

I take it the outer fender sits on top of the inner fender. I bolt through the outer into the inner. Do the hood latch panel sit on top or under the outer fender? I notice there is a hole about 2"x3" just under the hood hinge that has the round spring.

I've put the fender on but I can't get the holes to line up where the welting is. The fender needs to come down about 1/2-1"

Did you already fit the cab/hood/radiator support, those need to be fit first, then the fenders matched to the hood and cab. A factory assembly manual will show the sequence for installing all of the panels, I don't have an AD one.

Yoshi: I will get flack from some of the members, but in 35 plus years of building hot rods, I can only think of one car that I put fender welting on. If the fenders will fit tight to the body, welting isnt required.

You need to fit the hood to the cab and front core first, then fenders to the hood. Reason is just a little mis alignment of the cab angle and hood will throw everything off. Trying to save you the time and effort of hanging the fenders only to have to take them back off again. This sequence has been addressed a number of time here and on the stovebolt.com boards.

I agree...... I don like the look and if the gaps are prepared properly it is not needed
