Putting 6 lug shafts in a '72 5 lug 12 bolt?

Looking at the Moser site, it appears that there is only a 1/32" length difference for their 5 lug & 6 lug shafts.
I want to be sure, though.
The factory rear in my '57 is worn out, I want to put a 12 bolt in there, I want to keep it six lug. So... is a '72 5 lug axle going to work with aftermarket shafts or am I going to keep looking?

Isn't a '72 12-bolt going to be really wide for a '57?

Re: Putting 6 lug shafts in a '72 5 lug 12 bolt?

The photo in the ad has a tape measure @ 62" flange to flange. I think the factory rear is 60" wide but don't exactly recall - I know it was more than a Ford Explorer and less than a later C10.
The late 60's rear ends more closely match the width but the guy is only asking $140...

why not a 6 lug rear from a 69 or 70?
