Question A lil help please....

Ive got a 66 with an 84 Burban X-member.I need to replace front coils. Whats the SAFE driveway method?

First, you jack up the truck high enough to allow the lower arms to drop, and support on stands. Level ground and wheels blocked.

Disconnect shocks and sway-bar (if equipped)....

Remove up upper ball cotter pin, and loose nut about half way, but do not remove. Hit spindle along side nut, untill itg "pops" loose.

Place jack and lower a-arm and raise to releive tension, and remove nut.

Lower jack slowly and remove spring.

Install, is basically the reverse, you just don't need to bang anything (usuallly)

I would have a a second person help you mabey with the jack.

What John said, however I also like using a spring compressor especially when installing the new springs. You can rent them from most auto supply stores although they aren't that expensive if you'll ever use it again.

It's also a good idea to wrap a chain through the spring and lower control arm just for safety in case the jack slips and the spring comes out under pressure.

and those springs travel a LONG way if they get lose from you!

I've seen one at least 20-30 ft in the air.

Good idea for the first timer...however, personally I've never had an issue wih removing coils from the front-ends...Mabey because in my side on town, all the springs were heated !! (JK)

Spring compressor from Oreilly's or your favorite parts house. Rent one so you dont loose an appendage/life when you mess with the springs.
