Bought a truck yesterday
Good Morning-New here to the 88-98 forum. Bought this 92 Silverado yesterday, looks to be in great shape except for a blown transmission (auto) and needing some interior work. Needs some cleaning and a bath
A few questions; 1. The truck has the 700R4, or 4L60 I believe it was called at that point. 3rd gear slips then grabs and will go into OD but this isn't going to get any better so the trans will need to be replaced. I just happened to have a Bowtie Overdrive Stage 2 200R4 I recently pulled from my 68 Corvette (swapped in a Borg-Warner 6 speed). From what I understand judging from the searches I have already made on this forum, a crossmember from a manual trans truck will work, also I will have to get a driveshaft from a long wheel base truck and likely have it shortened slightly to fit. Everything else(cooling lines, linkage, TV cable, and 12v connection) should fit. Anyone see a problem with this swap? 2. Is there any reason why a set of door panels from a Suburban or extended cab truck won't work? There's a set in the for-sale section in the color as my interior 3. Seller says this truck has a "later front end". I asked why, was it wrecked? He says his grandfather(original owner) liked the look of the later grill so that what he installed. Can anyone tell me what year the front end in from by the pics? I'm sure I'll have more questions later but this will get me started Thanks |

Re: Bought a truck yesterday
I'm in Florida now.... but grew up in California.... I had an '88 C2500 reg cab truck & drove it to 392,000 before it got bought & shipped to a classic shop in Germany a couple weeks ago. I know a lot about the '88. Your truck is similar.
I read about your 2004r transmission..... That can be a STOUT transmission for your truck! May I suggest you call Art Carr in Huntington Beach, Ca. He is famous for his 200 r4 transmission builds. ( It would not surprise me if that tranny , out of the Corvette, was built by his shop.) Your 700 transmission is also the correct original, But if the 200 is still good.... I worked for him for a while ( California Performance Transmissions)

Thanks for the info, yes Art has a very good reputation for building a quality trans. I sold the 2004r the other day to another Vette guy, wants to put it in his '79 and the local transmission shop just picked up my 700R4 Friday so the $$ I made off the 200 will go a long way towards rebuilding the 700 |

Re: Bought a truck yesterday
Door panels from an extended cab truck will work. They are tha same as regular cab.
Door panels from a 92-94 suburban or crew cab truck are not a direct fit. The power window switches are a lot different. You will have to change some wiring if you'd like to use the 92-94 door panels and switches. |

The 2 door fullsize 92-95 blazer only has 2 windows, but it uses the crew cab/suburban style switches. Heres a link for crew cab suburban switch: https://www.ebay.com/i/302643715911?chn=ps The entire door panel is different too. |

Re: Bought a truck yesterday
That's a good looking step side. Clean it up, get it running, and do some cruisin. Those little trucks are fun to cruise in. Here's the 1990 that my son drove in high school the past three years.....we got him something new for college, but his classic antique little rumbler was pretty popular with the gals, I've heard.

Re: Bought a truck yesterday
That is a beautiful 92! I have a 94 extended cab sportside that just came to Minnesota from California this last October! Mine is super clean but could use a paint job and an all new dash! California sun beat it up pretty good! If I can figure out how to post a pic I will!

Thanks! Yeah it's a good solid truck, spent most of the weekend repairing the neglect and other hack work done by the PO, actually getting ready to place an order to Rockauto |
