Kind of a boring update, but I have been getting the driver step ready.

Got things into primer, and will be painting this step black...

Re: 1981 Chevrolet C50 Pick-up Conversion

I have a lead on a driver side saddle tank... Think this will be a good fit to the truck, a little extra weight, but it really will not make a difference at this point... ha.

Looking killer man! I would have to got with a matching tank on the driver's side, even if it were empty most of the time! The look still cries out for it!

X3! Finally got caught up on this thread and i gotta say its making it difficult for me to resist the idea of talking to my buddy about the two C60s hes got...If i recall right hes got two C60s in this body style. one in the 67-72 body and an old Dodge truck of the same class that i had looked at pretty hard at one point. Im actually buying a couple Squarebodies from him over the next couple months for $500 each...i should ask about those trucks just out of sake of being curious.

Re: 1981 Chevrolet C50 Pick-up Conversion

Well it is official I just made a deal for the driver side saddle tank. I will be picking it up in a week or so.

I agree with everyone it will make things more symetrical.

A special thanks to Mike from bigasstrux.com for getting me hooked up in my own country. This guy has the connections, not to mention some wicked builds!

Re: 1981 Chevrolet C50 Pick-up Conversion

Back from a week at SEMA.

Met the right people and made some arrangements for some parts on the C50.

Brought home a set of new tips for the truck. Just slipped them on last night, will have to adjust everything. I think they are fitting to my build.

Any thoughts?

Hope to get back in full swing and get some more work done....

Re: 1981 Chevrolet C50 Pick-up Conversion

What size and type wheels do you have (tubeless or split rim)? I assume they have a 6.25 inch hub center and 8.75 inch bolt circle like so many of the GM medium dutys did. I'm having a heck of a time finding tubless wheels with that hub/bolt pattern in anything but a 19.5 and the tire selection for that size wheel is very limited. I'm looking for 22.5 wheels for my project, if anyone has any idea where to find some I'd appreciate some info? I know Accuride made some 22.5s that would fit but they are now discontinued.

These 22.5 inch wheels were available from Accuride, one of my buyers got some last year. You just can't find these things in junkyards anymore.

(not to hijack the thread but...) Did these trucks ever come with 22.5s? Just trying to figure out what to look for. I know this same lug pattern went through at least 1989, but all of the later models seem to have 19.5s.

The hunt was on for the right project truck (solid trucks of this age can be hard to locate here in Ontario) and I finally found it.

It is a 1981 Chevrolet C50. I have started the build, and look forward to posting my progress on this website.

Re: 1981 Chevrolet C50 Pick-up Conversion

Greetings,

I am hoping to get back into the swing of things with my truck. I recently bought a MCI bus conversion so I have been on that getting it winterized and ready to use around Christmas.

I will be back rolling on the truck in the next couple of weeks.

Thanks for all the comments though, much appreciated.

That would be cool to see some pics of this project. I have always wanted to do a MCI conversion myself. Maybe start a new build thread of the MCI?

Re: 1981 Chevrolet C50 Pick-up Conversion

Not to get off topic, but here is the MCI I just purchased.

Just getting it cleaned up and ready to head south at Christmas with my Wife and Son.

1976 MCI 40 Foot with a Detroit 8V92 and a Allison HT740 4 speed.

Everything was converted professionally and was owned and maintained by a large road works company here in Ontario.

The C50 is sitting patiently in my shop. I hope to get rolling on it back soon.
