Your Favorite 80's Cars... and GO!

Saw this on facespace, and thought it might be fun.

A lot of people consider the 80's to be a terrible decade for automotive design, and while I agree for the most part, there are some rides out there I wouldn't mind owning.

With that in mind, if you had to own only THREE (3) vehicles for remainder of your time spinning around this planet, what 3 1980's vehicles would you own?

I'll kick it off with my 3.

1988 IROC Z Camaro
1989 Caprice
1986 Silverado SWB 4x4

I wanted a fun toy, family car, and I can't live without a truck, I mean, come on. Your's don't have to be GM, I'd definitely consider a fox body or even a Ram pickup. I'm even a big fan of the 84-88 Toyota pickups.

Odd, mine all came from 1987.

BMW E28 M5. I still have a Pirelli poster featuring this one.

Regal T-Type with the WH1 paint scheme. Having had a tempermental 87 GN for a few years, you'd think I would have learned my lesson. Love the body style, though.

GMC 4WD Suburban. Last year of the big stacked headlights, but you get fuel injection.

Re: Your Favorite 80's Cars... and GO!

For 80's vehicles would have to go with the following:

1. '86 Monte Carlo LS (Luxury Sport, youngest son has one)
2. '88 4WD 1/2 Suburban, had one, moved up to a '91, great family vehicles
3. ''87 Buick GN, turbo V-6 of course

Re: Your Favorite 80's Cars... and GO!

Nothing from the 80s. Wait, check that.
I would like to have had a mid 80s Monte Carlo SS, non aero coupe and a Hurst Olds 442. And a truck of course.
The 80s were a terrible time for automobiles. Some of them had the looks but few had any power to speak of. From the factory that is. A Buick 6 with a hair dryer was faster than a vette, from the factory..

Re: Your Favorite 80's Cars... and GO!

I see a lot of us have similar taste.

Black or Blue 88 Iroc Z with T Tops. ( this must be one of the ultimate bad boy cars of all time ).

White 87 Porsche Wide Body. ( just plan sexy, like leotards and leg warmers in the 80s ).

Factory Green 88-89 Chevy Step side Extended Cab truck.

If I could pick one more it would be the 86 Mustang GT with T Tops.

Re: Your Favorite 80's Cars... and GO!

If you are just talking domestic cars, I cant think of any. When you look at the ones listed so far, of course there are some great performance rides listed. But I cant think of a one that I would consider owning. Personal taste thing though, I'm pretty sure a lot of guys wouldn't walk a across the street to see some of the junk I like lol.

'80 K35 Camper Special regular cab single rear wheel pickup

'80 K25 Suburban w/barn doors

'80 C15 SWB Fenderside

No cars for me, all GMCs. I picked all 1980s because that's as far back as I could go, it's a unique year, and it's still the '70s design.

Yeah , At least you could fit in the back seat ! What's up with these little police cars of today ? I mean with the plastic back seats how do they think anyone can fit in there ?

The 1984 Monte Carlo SS was a great driving car and sharp looking at the time

Re: Your Favorite 80's Cars... and GO!

Great responses so far!

Yes for the most part the 80's cars sucked, but it got you to think about the few gems you would like to own. Whether we like it or not, in 10-15 years more and more 80's cars/trucks will be infiltrating car shows because guys my age (30s/40s) are buying back the 3rd gens, C10s, and foxs we had in high school.

Not limited to domestic, the 84-88 Toyota trucks would be a runner up for me. There's a few exotics listed too.

Re: Your Favorite 80's Cars... and GO!

Anyone notice that no one has mentioned the 80's corvettes at all.....lol. No surprise.

I have to agree on those late 80's Toyota trucks tho'.
If I could find a nice rust free 87-88 (22RE-5 speed with the fuel injection) extended cab truck in mint condition.....I would pay good money for that.

Those trucks were epic in their ability and their reliability. I had one years ago and that was a great vehicle, in town or out....good mileage, bullet proof, nice size and very well built.
Unfortunately their boxes rusted out within minutes of leaving the dealership...lol.

The other key element was (is) their resale value. I paid $4500 for it and sold it 3 years later for $4800....try that with most vehicles, lol. They are still in high demand if they are in good condition and will bring in more money than most luxury or sport vehicles from that era.

Here is one for a bit more comedy relief......the Audi 5000....lol.
Anyone remember those?....and za' german marketing campaign around their engineering angle.

When was the last time you saw one?.....again, their ability to rust in half within hours was legendary, lol.
