Saving Identification Plate on 1960 C10

I would like to have the entire cab on my '60 C10 dipped and stripped. Unfortunately, that would remove the paint and text on the identification plate on the drivers side kick panel that has the weight, horse power, paint code information. That plate is riveted on. Can I drill out the rivets and replace it after stripping and painting? Are the rivets unique or special in any way? Comments? Thoughts? Ideas?
