FACTORY AC - Are all years identical?

Think I'm going to add factory AC as part of my 70 K10 build...So, I'm going to look for a donor truck that has it.....I'm just wondering if I need to look only for a 70 or will any 67-72 factory AC truck be ok?

Hopefully I can find a donor that has the AC plus "Buddy Buckets"....and I will be one happy dude !

Thanks, Dan

I believe that the units were all the same. You will have to modify the firewall a little because of the differences and dash vents

A/C box mounting holes are also different. Installing an a/c system from a 72 GMC in a 68 Chevy now. I had to elongate the heater core holes, and drill the holes for the a/c box. The difficult part will be locating the brackets for the vaccum operated wiper cowl vent correctly.

Re: FACTORY AC - Are all years identical?

We added factory air to our 68 gmc. The nice thing about it is, as shown in the picture, is that you can make the holes bigger and the a/c box will cover it and you won't have to cut out the firewall and replace it.

If you can see an A/C truck, you'll see where that vent flap is located. Then, look closely at the cowl of an un-airconditioned truck and you'll notice that there are slight indentations that are there to serve as locators for the screws that mount that device.

As an aside, as soon as my cab goes into the shop to be repaired, I will be removing an air dash from the scrap that I will be left with. It is un-cut, meaning that the radio cutout is still original.

Re: FACTORY AC - Are all years identical?

So, just to verify...
67, 68, 69, 70, 71 & 72 AC systems DO all interchange...
One from a 72 will work on a 68, and 71 will work on a 69, etc...
As long as both are AC cabs all is well...?
I have a 67 factory air cab... I can look for stuff off ANY year AC truck 67-72..? Correct...?

Re: FACTORY AC - Are all years identical?

Can you make your own holes in a non-a/c dash for the three ducts? I beleive the dash is spot-welded in right? Is the holes for the control panel the same size? I have been wondering about this for a long time. This forum is awesome!

Yes, but you need to make a template, the cut is oblong. The control holes are the same.If you dont have access to an AC dash PM me with an address and I'll send you the templates.
