New 05 Duramax 2500 4x4

Just got a new duramax and was curious what the biggest size of tires was that would fit without rubbing and no lift on my truck on the stock HD wheels. Any advice?

I have seen 305/75's used on stock rims, but it litterly left no room for error.

I think you'd be lucky to get 285's under there with no lift.

I have an 05 1500hd with is essentially the same as the 2500 and I had to crank the torsion bars a little so my 265 BFG's wouldn't catch the front valance. Might depend on the tire brand as well.

Crank up the torsion bars and trim the bump stops a bit and you will have plenty of room for 255/85R16 (tall skinny 33’s) or 285/75R16 (32”). I have two Silverado’s running each tire size and like the 255/85R16’s the best but tall skinny tires do not appeal to everybody. 305’s will rub the inner fenders like crazy with stock wheels. While on the subject, contrary to popular belief, cranking the torsion bars does not cause a rough ride. Cranking the torsion bars causing the bump stops to smash into the control arm causes the rough ride. Trim or cut off the bump stop will fix that. Another misconception is the need for reclocked torsion bar keys. They are a waste of money on a HD truck as you can get the same amount of lift from the stock keys by adjusting them to the max and trimming the bump stops. Either way, the torsion bar is twisted the same. I wasted money getting keys for my 2005 while I got the same lift on my stock keys on the 2001.

I was talking to the guy today with teh 305s and Larry is correct. We crank the bars a hair (put in a piece from a F-rd I think he said. and also they were 305/70's not 305/75. The lower profile helped with the clearance. But like was mentioned, there is no rood for rough stuff. His truck is pretty much a yuppy 4x4, probably never even seens a rough road, let alone one that isn't paved.

what would you guys suggest for a tire that would fill the wheel well more, require no lift and still get good traction for off roading while maintaining the stock 16" rim?
