58 chevy.. gen 3

I have a 58 chevy long fleet. already has a Ford 9" installed. I haven't worked on it in four years, and I'm finally getting ready to start. I want to convert to auto and I have to update to the new engine crossmember installed, already had the rear trans cross member on the back of a muncie that i sold.

My truck has the stock straight axle manual steering set up and I want to know if anyone has done a Gen 3 sbc swap. I really don't want to do IFS and power steering, I'd like to keep it fairly simple. I'm only interested in the gen 3 because of the new carb swap kits floating around. The biggest thing i know of driver's side header clearance. Anyone with help or ideas? i've tried many forums and spent days on google....
