parking brake cables

I have a problem , I swaped my 14bolt s.f out for a another one from a 84 k20. now the problem i have is the 82 parking brake cables have brackets with 2 holes in them to bolt on to the dust shield. The 84 has a hole for a connector with the little fingers. i know that the 84 uses longer cables that meet up on the driver side of the frame . my 82 has the cable that goes along the frame on both sides to a mounting bracket on each side.I would change the dust shields but they are bolted and welded to the axle tubes.what do you guys think it the best solution for this.
