Help me ID this thing! - The 1947 - Present Chevrolet & GMC Truck Message Board Network

Hey guys, just hopping on this forum for some help identifying this thing. It has been on my family's farm for as long as I have been alive, 25 years. It is really the last thing left to get rid of but I have always been curious what exactly it was. I think its a Chevy, and around 1947 - 1959 which is why I picked this forum subsection but I am really not sure.

Any ideas?

Definitely either Chevy or GMC, 47-54, looks like it may be an old milk truck...

Agree...looks like the walls have a bit of insulation in them.

Since there's no Chevy doors or windshield it's really hard to come up with a year. But, like others said 47-54 Chev or GMC for sure.
I had never heard of Herman Body. Only Divco for milk trucks. I did a quick search and not much out there about them at all. Here's a 47 International I found with a Herman body.

I'm guessing your truck may be worth a few bucks, just because I know the old Divcos are very collectible.

Yes i agree on the Milk truck, around here in the 50's our milk was delivered by the Bordens Milk Co.and that looks like one !!

This is a 1952 Ford Milk Truck. Seems to be whatever preference you chose of make. I have seen some Studebaker milk wagons using the same box.
Hopefully you are going to sell it and not crush it.. An engine build, nice set of wheels and tires, and drive the way it looks. Then it would bring big bucks on a re-sell. Would make a cool mini motorhome/camper. Already insulated too.

Wow thanks for all the feedback. Sadly the hood was recently stolen, despite its years of sitting here.

I don't want to send it to the scrapyard, I would like to find it a new home. I might list it on craigslist or make an ebay auction for it, but I am not sure what a reasonable asking price might be for its current condition.

I looked for VIN numbers but couldn't find anything. Where would I look to find numbers on this thing?

In the first pic, the dash looks like a 54. Pic #8 the nose is a International, you can see the emblem on the rear lower hood.

The dash is 47-53, it also has a dipper motor so 47-53 too. As for the vin tag it should be on the panel to the left of the clutch pedal next to the parking brake, at least that's where it was on my 50 Chev school bus. In the picture of the dash it looks like it might still be there.
