Yes. My buddy had to do the owners manual method to get his down. It took him quite a while and he was hating life. My situation was a bit different. For reference for others, here's what happened. My spare lowered okay but I didn't want to drive around to the tire shop with that cable gizmo dangling so I reeled it up. Too far up I guess as It wouldn't come down and didn't have the weight of the spare for the owners manual method. I crawled under the truck and pulled down the rubber boot that keeps crap outta the reel. On the back is two holes. I stuck a screwdriver into one and was able to release that hook of the secondary catch. Back to normal - as crappy as that is.
