As lame as it sounds, I replaced my heater hoses and the carbon in my evaporator canister...I drove it to work for the first time in a week...like I said, LAME! I plan on replacing all the hoses for the emissions system in the next few days...EXCITING!

NOT ' lame ' ! .
Doing the basics and making a good job of it is one of the better things you can do ~ I always replace every single little hose and I like to use the OEM type spring clamps on them too , even the vacuum hoses that don't really need clamps . How you tend to the details on your truck , reflects greatly upon you as a person . -Nate |

Thanks Ryan... I know it's not for everybody. I've never been much for chasing the conventional. Sometimes it works... Lots of time it doesn't. Lol

Re: What did you do to your truck today!
I got both of my arm rests' & all 4 escutcheons' installed today. I found out the hard way today to install those escutcheons' is to pull the door panels completely off and use about 2 tons of brute thumb force to snap those dang things in! lol Sometimes the smallest things can be the hardest things to replace or repair.

RE : window cranks & inside door handles
Actually they're incredibly easy to remove and install , once you buy the $5 GM door handle tool at all FLAPS in the HELP aisle ~ it's just a flat bit of stamped sheet metal with a weird cut out in one end that *instantly* pops those dang clips right off .

Like any tools, if there's a good and a "better" one, get the "better" one. I use a small chunk of dish towel wrapped around the shaft (all bad jokes aside) with some success. Some are easier to get than others. But having extra wire "pins" is a good idea. I'll risk this observation: When you put 'em back on, you snap the wire on the groove in the handle and when you're ready, whack it into place....But you got that already, right?

Re: What did you do to your truck today!
Last Saturday I spent a long fun day with my '71 GMC... car show up in Daytona from 7 to 1 then to WING HOUSE for lunch. Like Hooters but WAY shorter shorts. Then I spent from 3 to 9pm inside Daytona Speedway watchin' about 50 cars practice and test for the upcoming ROLEX 24. Put 100++mi. on the truck and got some nice compliments on it. Great, BUT, I listened to lifter noise all day and it got worse as the day went on. Drove it home on I-95 about 75mph, figured GO or BLOW. Less lifter "CLOP-CLOP" noise when I got home. Yesterday I pulled the dr. side valve cover off and found #3 rocker crossways off the valve stem and a bent pushrod. Recently I replaced cheezy roller rockers with new set of stock Sealed Power stamped rockers, pushrods too. Zeroed the lifters very carefully running and still didn't like the way it sounded. Original 350, unknown rebuild by PO, 487 heads, screw in studs,Milodon guide plates, Performer RPM, 650 Holley. Runs cool, good oil pressure, doesn't sound like much cam, runs on regular. I don't know if it's eating the cam or maybe the guide plates are binding on the pushrods. Bought 1 pushrod and vale cover gaskets last night. Gonna take the guide plates out and put it back together today. I don't mind changing an engine out but I'd rather do it 'cause I wanted to than HAD to.
