Re: Door signs

Mine had a Phoenix appliance dealers name and number on it. It got sanded off a long time ago before patina was cool. No photos.

Re: Door signs

For you guys that are adding graphics o your trucks; how are you doing it?

My '46 will be in primer for a while and I was thinking of doing this just for the hell of it. Are you just copying something off the internet, printing it big and then tracing it on? Hand lettering it yourself? That's my idea unless someone has a better solution. I don't have photoshop but I know someone who is a pro at it. Maybe I'll tell them what I want and the "motif" and have them come up with it.

All the lettering on my 64 is "new" We went with race track names that closed up in the 70's... We used 1 shot paint then splashed it with thinner and sanded lightly to make it look aged... Most was done free hand..

Re: Door signs

One shot is available from Eastwoods, right? I wouldn't have thought of splashing it with thinnner, I'd have just wet sanded it once it was dry. Thanks Addict.

Re: Door signs

im a third generation sign painter and I do rat rod signs . sanding is one way of doing it but if you want it to look really old. paint it with one shot , take arag with a little thinner on it and wipe off some of the paint in the letters. this will look like faded out lettering . then before the paint dries get some ordinary dirt and rub it into the lettering. try it . you will be impressed

Re: Door signs

I just recently reworked my door lettering, not a good picture angle but here goes, Peesacrap Speed Shop. Used an address from a town that no longer exists, along with my childhood phone number. I love watching people's faces when they figure out what it says.

Re: Door signs

I bought a used vinyl cutter, bought some material and software and went to town. This is my billboard.
Note: I just got word my panel is reassembled and all in primer, so it will look quite different, soon.

Re: Door signs

Here's mine. They were painted on in April of 2013.

Note how the existing scratches were extended by painting them into the logo.

Re: Door signs

I've used vinyl as a template for paint. Lay out the template then have at it with a rattle can. Carefully remove the template then use a rag soaked with thinner to age the paint.

Here's my door sign, in tribute to my Father-in-law Fred and his quote he'd tell my mother-in-law when they were dating. And my logo on my storage box in the bed. And my side boards I did for a local parade with some church members riding in the back.
