Re: Back when 4x4 was a big deal

Well, you can tell from the 67-72 production numbers that they just weren't making many 4x4's then. It makes sense that the 4x4's were a little more popular in some areas than in others, but even in north Idaho it seems like most of the old trucks are two wheel drive.

Re: Back when 4x4 was a big deal

Back in the mid-'70s I had many Rocky Mountain old timers tell me time was no one needed 4wd,they just slapped the chains on and loaded weight in the bed.

Re: Back when 4x4 was a big deal

At the moment I have no real need for a 4x4. This year I locked the hubs twice and pulled the lever once. Several other times I could of used it but it is alot more fun to go it in 2wd. My 5500 is a 4x4 because I got a SLT model for $100 more than a base model 2wd that did not even have AC! 4x4s are definatley easier to sell. When I was a kid the neighbor had a 75 1 ton 4 door with a 454. He bought it to haul the family because it was a full grand cheaper than a car.
