Help! 2011 Chevy Duramax Transmission Control Module

I need some advice.

My 2011 chevy duramax with 87,000 miles on it suddenly got the "Stabilitrak Service" message on the DIC after a trip to the grocery store. It also has the check engine light and the traction control light on. The truck acts like it is in limp mode and will not shift out of 2nd gear. I took it to the dealership and they said that it needed a new TCM. The TCM would cost $600.00 and the install and program would cost an additional $300.00. They also told me that the TCM is not covered under the powertrain warranty.

It sucks bad enough to have to spend $900.00 for work on a 3 year old truck but the real kick in the nuts is that the dealership told me the TCM is on national back order and I would be put on a waiting list to get one. They also told me that they have no idea how long it would take to get one.

So my question is what should I do? Take it to another dealership for an evaluation?

I check carpart.com and I can find used ones for $125.00 to $300.00. Should I buy one of these and bring it in for them to program?

The weather is not going to be as nice as it was today every day so riding my motorcycle is out of the question.

Thanks for the help.

Re: Help! 2011 Chevy Duramax Transmission Control Module

If the computer is on national backorder that means they are failing at a ridiculously high rate. If your computer failed and new ones are on national backorder than means they are all failing. I wouldn't waste the money on the used unit because its likely already bad or will be bad shortly. However the handling of what should be a warranty problem is nonsense. I spin wrenches for a living in a private shop and the bs that is pulled by the stealerships drives me nuts. Example good customer takes car in for a recall or something similar and is quickly told they NEED 3-4k in work. Brakes all the way around bs intake cleaning services etc etc. Call gm directly and see what they say. Go over the heads of the stealership.

Re: Help! 2011 Chevy Duramax Transmission Control Module

Here is some ones I found....
Amazon.com: ACDelco 24256861 Professional... Amazon.com: ACDelco 24256861 Professional...http://parts.nalleygmc.com/products/.../24256861.html

http://www.ebay.com/itm/NEW-VIN-PROG...item5d4d88c585
These guys program it for you for FREE, They will need your VIN, CALL them first to make sure they can program it.
I have used PCM performance before for a T42 TCM on a GTO, Worked perfect.

From what I have found...The service number on your TCM should be 24256861, Please confirm!

After searching the diesel forrums I can't seem to find very many others that are having TCM problems with their Allison's. So I don't think it is very common.

Thanks Cline! I will pick it up tomorrow and bring it home and at least check all of the pins on the connectors. Then I think I will try PCM performance.

Re: Help! 2011 Chevy Duramax Transmission Control Module

I tried to pick up my truck, but it was stuck in 4th or 5th gear. I ended up ordering the amazon.com TCM for $226.00 and the dealership said that they would program it for me. I should have the TCM by Tuesday and my truck by the end of the week. I will let you know how it turns out.

The TCM on ebay programed is $350.00. The dealership told me that it would program it for me for $115.00 if i brought it in to them. about the same price either way i went. Since it was going to be a pain in the butt to try to get it home i just decided to let the dealership do it.

Re: Help! 2011 Chevy Duramax Transmission Control Module

Got my truck back today! Seems to be good. They got me for $230.00 for the programing and diagnostic/install labor. So, it cost me about half of what they initially quoted me. Happy to have my wheels back for the weekend. Thanks for the help.
