sm465 neutral saftey switch

Just trying to button up some of the wiring before it goes in for inspection. I have two switches on my transmission, one I would say is for back up, the other a neutral safety switch? Side being reverse top being neutral or the other way around?

Re: sm465 neutral saftey switch

My neutral safety switch is mounted on the pedal assembly (On my K5). My reverse switch is on top. What year is your SM465?

Re: sm465 neutral saftey switch

Get you continuity tester out. Revere switch should go to ground when in reverse.

Re: sm465 neutral saftey switch

I got the reverse lights figured out, theyre the side switch. Now I cant figure out the neutral safety. I have two trucks that had manuals and neither have a switch anywhere on the clutch pedals. Can anyone else confirm that is the location of the switch or did some not have them at all? I need a neutral safety switch in order to pass inspection, any ideas where I could get one and adapt it to my pedal?

Re: sm465 neutral saftey switch

OK had a beer and an idea popped into my head, now its not the most professional job but it works. So my idea was to take the brake switch from a parts truck and mount it to the clutch, Ill make a better bracket later but it works so far.

Re: sm465 neutral saftey switch

I did a very similar mod. When I added a speedo stat cruise control, they have this mickey mouse set up for disengaging the cruise if you step on the clutch before the brake pedal. It is a sensor that goes around a plug wire and kicks off the cruise if the revs go to high. Not my idea of a good failsafe, so I put another brake light switch on the clutch pedal to disengage the cruise.
