tbi plus turbo....... any experiences?

Pretty much like the title says. Thinking bout boosting a 454 tbi motor, mainly wondering if that style of tbi can keep up with big boost, or if I should go with a aftermarket system.

Its possible but your pretty limited by parts selection. You only have two injectors to work with, so they have to be putting out a significant amount of fuel. The tbi unit itself isn't really designed for pressure either.

Its a bit more common to switch to a blowthrough carb setup, or go with aftermarket efi.

Wondering what kind of ECM you would use in place of the OBD-1,,,hmmmmmmm

That is assuming were talking about the pre 96 TBI motors,,, right?

I have seen a few BBC guys adopt an LS computer using a crank trigger.

I don't think you'd actually HAVE to replace the ECM, can't you still buy those PROM burners like the Camaro guys did back in the day?

I think a company called WynJammer used to do TBI superchargers, so they might be a resource.

You can run pretty much anything off the LS style ECM's, it just involves using a ton of blank PID's.

I don't know about the OEM throttle body, but I do know that the older Holley Pro-jection throttle bodies will handle boost. You can change out the injectors in the Holley for larger injectors.

Re: tbi plus turbo....... any experiences?

It functions in place of the internal reluctor wheel & sensor, but otherwise works pretty much the same.
