Hubcap restoration?
Has anyone ever done hubcap restoration that is more than just repainting? Dent removal and other stuff? Any tips or techniques would be helpful

If you like fabrication work and have alot of patience you're good to go. I straightened some of the trim on my '67 just had to find the right radius(pipe) and small enough hammer. I'll be thrown to the ground by the fab guru's , but that is how I roll. get something that's close to the form and tap,tap,tap....Ta Da!!! When you get it done you feel like you hit the lotto!!

It covers stainless caps which aren't painted but you may be able to follow the first part of the instructions and have some success if you're working on a set of patina painted caps. |

As I understand it, the bright, non-painted caps used on the trucks through 1972 were chrome plated rather than stainless. Starting in 73 they were stainless. The link above will work great for stainless, but sanding a chrome plated cap will wear through the chrome. I suppose you could do as in the link then have the caps re-plated.
I wonder what a paintless dent repair person could do with a plated cap. Has anyone tried it? |
