Steel bed to wood.

I am really contemplating changing my steel floor to the wood floor for my show truck. We are at that point in my build so I need to make the decision. My truck is LWB and the bed is already taken apart.
My steel floor is in great shape just surface rust and actually very straight. My truck is being painted rootbeer and pearl white so I think the wood bed would really compliment the build.

I wanted to hear from anyone that has done this swap before if it is going to be a pain in the butt or not give I am pretty much going to need to build the bed from new parts.

Never done the swap, I agree that wood would (tounge twister) look nice in that color combo..... buuuut. I just have to say. A nice steel bed always looks nice too. especially when its really clean and all painted.

Did mine but my metal bed floor was too far gone, but you will need alot of parts. To start you will need all new bed cross member supports, front panel is different 1/2 tallerso the wood can set on a bottom lip,and the back bed rail is different so the wood will set flush. Here are some picks ofthe bed rails and then the finished product.

Is there any reason not to by the steel to wood bed kit? Except, of course, that you'd lose an inch or so of depth.
And, if she's a "correct" show truck, maybe that's important.

I'd love to have a show truck. It'll never happen.

So, my steel bed just got the "Hardwood-floor-left-over-from-the-house-DIY" action.

For about fifty bucks.



It's not correct. And it doesn't look as nice. But it comes out in about 15 minutes.
Goes back in in about 1/2 an hour.

And, did I say it was about fifty bucks?

Other the the cost of stuff buying new. I have about 350.00 tied up in my bed from taking my time and finding used parts, even the wood was used. and by the way your bed looks good,why change it you have the best of both worlds wood or metal.
