Figure I'd give the front end/under carriage a bath before taking it apart. Can't say under the hood has been a disappointment. Within a few years it should be super, AC, stove pipe, paint, wires, etc.....Other than the HEI, the goal is original.

I got careless, the result was H20 in distributor and it wasn't happy. Another use for WD40, and back to running like a switch watch. I suspect the timing is a bit off though (I haven't checked it in 15 years, minimum (about 1K a year)). No big, within two weeks I put her to sleep anyway.

Custom Vs original................... a lot of nice compartments on this site.

Think I want to paint that power booster gold. I believe that's the original color, but could be wrong. Note, I'm colored blind. I'll likely replace that master cylinder. Not thrilled with the appearance, I probably went cheap, but it's been on a long while. A lot needs to be done to get this original. I have everything other than the correct radiator. That said, my exhaust manifolds don't match, one is for AIR. I'd like to replace it.

every time I see a pic of an engine bay I remember the guy who started out replacing valve covers. before he knew it, his valve cover job was costing him $30K

Not painted but cad plated, if I'm not mistaken.... and if I am mistaken it will be pointed out before long.

BTW that engine compartment looks amazing just as it is!

A lot to do yet: A/C, stove pipe, windshield washer, radiator, power steering lines and steering box, wiring, different coolant overflow, hoses, correct valve covers (those are off a 396. The 71 402 had the rubber oil cap).........Really, anything that needs to be improved will be.

Shame that shroud your looking at was cut for the wrong radiator. I have a replacement, but the top isn't quite mint like the one they ruined. That's a story in itself.

How about the staying power for the original air cleaners? Mine hasn't been touched. A few small scratches, but polish is good enough. There's no way I'm painting that.

I did my engine bay over the winter, its not factory but I like the look with out all the chrome.
