Headers?

Is there a set of headers that won't break the bank and that will fit a 1971 c10 2 wheel drive with a 3 ott?

Re: Headers?

Most all headers that won't break the bank will have you chasing exhaust leaks. They have thin flanges that get distorted with the heat cycles.

Quality headers fit great, don't leak, and don't come cheap.

I had someone try and sell me some flowtec headers swearing they don't leak and offered to prove it to me on his Nova. I showed him what a simple piece of paper could find, and that his headers did in fact leak. He tried to tell me it was the convection that was blowing the paper around.

It's hard to convince people the sky is blue and the grass is green if they don't want to believe it, so I rarely try anymore!

Re: Headers?

Hedman makes reasonably priced quality headers, they offer a variety, so check thoroughly.

Re: Headers?

Hedman Headers say that these where made for 3ott. I am looking at getting these or 2.5" Ram Horns for the 283. Hmmmm....

Re: Headers?

Mst any 3/4 header will work with manual transmission. I was thinking full headers. When looking, you'll want to see the rear tube from straight down to angled forward slightly to clear the bell crank. I've never had any not drop down far enough, but have had them run through where the lower/clutch linkage mount is. I just cut it loose (after cleaning grease and removing felt seal) and welded a bit to the side.

Can you explain this process? I have a set of headers on my 350 that hiss more than I'd like, but I don't know if that is just the noise headers make (thinner tube walls compared to manifolds) or if they're leaking (haven't detected a leak using the hose-in-ear method).
