'68 tilt column, will this work?

I was lucky enough to get a tilt column for my '68 off the parts board but was not aware that the "intermediate" shaft on my old column was not a separate part like the 69-72 trucks. Can I cut my old lower shaft and weld on one of these to make an intermediate column? http://www.speedwaymotors.com/Steeri...lex,33670.html

Any help will be appreciated.
