Re: A Legal Discussion - Rosette Rivets
I guess I'm a little puzzled as to how they thought rosette rivets are so secure.
It doesn't take long to transform a regular rivet into a convincing rosette, not that I recommend/endorse it. Add a little grime patina... Back in the 70s and 80s, brand F would rivet the VIN tag to the dash pad, which comes out in a few minutes with a few screws. Swap the pad, swap the VIN.

Re: A Legal Discussion - Rosette Rivets
You're actually supposed to have state police do that for you ....you take your title and any other proof of ownership with you and they will do a vin affidavit and check frame numbers.... as long as all matches they will attach it for you as well as give you paper work validating they did it. That's how it is done here in New Mexico. I have had it done through my shop for several customers. Not sure how other states work.

Re: A Legal Discussion - Rosette Rivets
would the body vin matter if you have the stamped frame the same number? If you had to change cabs could you put your old vin from your old cab onto the new cab . you would be repairing the truck . just wondering because if you left the old vin on the repaired cab that would be more of a problem?

Nebraska DMV told me to keep all bills of sales for anything i bought and there' would be no problem with them. So far so good. (Dont think they wanted to spend the time looking at all the paper work i had) |

Re: A Legal Discussion - Rosette Rivets
I didn't know there was a welded option when I started this poll.

Re: A Legal Discussion - Rosette Rivets
Neither did I for GM. Dodge claimed they were the first to have a bonded VIN plate back in the day ('63) but I don't believe it now.

I bought one used for parts. In effect I have the VIN tag but not the vehicle it belongs to. Is that a Crime ? |

Re: A Legal Discussion - Rosette Rivets
Reference to the welded one-- my 61 k tk are what looks like a spot weld. there is a divot/impression of some sort but not a rivet. It's like they used a nail gun like for bodywork? Kinda hard to see in the pics.
