Vintage Air A/C control panel

Whats the best choice of A/C control panel for Vintage Air? Should I get the original heater control or the original A/C control? my truck came with neither. Also does anyone know where to get a good price on one?

I did the least expensive option for mine (adding the v/a microswitches to factory non-ac controls) since its being installed as part of a mess of other major ugrades but when the smoke clears I'll probably upgrade it to one of thise swanky dakota digital controllers. Not period correct but all the functionality of something in a new vehicle.

Re: Vintage Air A/C control panel

I had no Idea Dakota Digital made A/C controls. I looked at their site, they look cool but I believe I'd have to customize to make it look good in the original space.
For my truck I try to stay away from LEDs and at least make an attempt to make it look period correct. Although its obvious my truck is customized.
I think I'll stay with the original controller but, am wondering if the A/C or the Heat only controller is better. Also where can I get a good price on one?

you can buy a original controller that came with a AC equiped truck ( put a WTB add on the Board) and vintage offers the electronic conv. kit so you dont need the cables mine was a original AC cab so it was pretty straight forward. my other builds are not, so i have already sourced those controllers my 2 cents

I was determined to keep mine looking old school.... and then went LS so all that went out the window.

I bought my setup from MCB (board vendor). Had a good price.

I bought the a/c factory controller. Mine is a non air truck. I bought the factory dash vents and cut the dash to install. Takes little longer, but the look is worth it.

Re: Vintage Air A/C control panel

I agree, my taste is to keep the original interior look.

My original question seems to have gotten lost;
With the Vintage Air kit,,,, Are there any differences in using either the Original A/C controller or by using the Original Heat Only controller?

I'm trying to decide which one to buy.

Obviously the heat only one does not have the fan speed control slider, but I don't believe that one is used with the VA kit?

The other difference I can see is that the Heat only one has a shorter travel path on the 3 sliders. Does that make a difference?

And last, does the VA kit have a new cover for that old controller and does it work for both styles?

Re: Vintage Air A/C control panel

Don't mean to hijack this thread, but i'm working on the same thing. I have the AC controller. Problem is I broke one of the black plastic sliders that go in the aluminum frame. Does anyone know where one might be able to buy one?

Re: Vintage Air A/C control panel

I went with this one, but I'm going as far away as original interior as I can..... without losing a semi-factory feel

Re: Vintage Air A/C control panel

I used a NOS factory A/C controller. The only function which is not used is the factory fan switch. Which you now can use for other functions.

The top slider is the fan function, the center is the dash/floor/defrost control, and the bottom slider is used for the temp control. I think you will need these three sliders for the Vintage Air micro controllers to work. Might want to give Vintage Air a call.
