Why do I live here? This is my view to the west:
And this is looking east from up on that mountain. The red arrow is my place. I-80 is there but is close to the hill and out of view:

I was actually thinking about you guys the other day. I think Thursday or Friday I saw a guy on the freeway with Arkansas plates pulling a trailer east with a '67-'72 cab on it. I was going to flag him over but it was right at my exit.

Re: Why do you live where you live?
My wife did think the pictures were pretty, but actually she says I have cured her from the man disease. She claims if anything happens to me, she doesn't want to have to train another one.
Johnny Cash was from Arkansas and we learned from his song. We are going to get all the western parts one piece at a time.

Re: Why do you live where you live?
Beautiful views Pritch. But to this Arkansan that looks like extreme heat and extreme cold land to me.

Re: Why do you live where you live?
Ah, it's not so bad. We usually get a cold snap once a year or so, where it might get to 25 or 30 below, and we rarely get over 100, maybe 4 or 5 days a year. But with 20% humidity it don't seem so bad.

Re: Why do you live where you live?
300+ days of sunshine every year. No rust, no mud, no snow shovel,no lawn to mow. About a half mile from Colorado river. Hot as hell in summertime but I find it alloy easier to cope with than the cold wet weather back east.

Re: Why do you live where you live?
I put a home on my grandfathers farm land. There is about 40 acres, most of what my dad owns now. I bought 5 acres off of him when I was about 20. Growing up the hill from him, I always wanted to live over the field from his house. I just wish I would have waited until I was a little (or a lot) smarter before building - not a big fan of two story houses after owning one. The original farm house still stands and they ran milk out of it as the family business. My great grandfather died in WWII on his way home after being discharged. The milk house stayed in the family until it was more convenient to buy in the store I guess. I have a sentimental tie to my land. Here in eastern PA we have beautiful fall weather. The sunrise and sunsets are nice and its a nice quiet place for the kids to grow up. I always wanted to move to Wyoming though. Maybe someday i'll hit the lottery and have a place out there as well.

Horrible and getting worse. So glad I don't live down in it. Bad enough to have to work down in it.

Re: Why do you live where you live?
We live here (Simi Valley, CA) because the wife wanted out of the San Fernando Valley. It meant a further commute for me, but that was only for 11 years...of hell. It's one of the safest cities of its size in the US. We live in about the middle of the city, with an HoA that minds their own business. I can walk to the grocery and parts stores if I want. Sometimes I do. Either are anywhere from half to one mile away, one way.
We are not in a flood zone, nor do we have to worry about hurricanes or tornadoes. The occasional earthquake (at about 20 year intervals) hasn't collapsed the house, yet. As far as fires go, we have enough homes between the mountains and us that the likelihood of burning down is remote. We have enough mountains between us and the ocean that a tsunami doesn't pose a threat. Guess that covers it!

Re: Why do you live where you live?
Cause I was born here. If I move to someplace that I would deem nicer or better, I don't get to see my family and friends.

Re: Why do you live where you live?
I was born and raised in Virginia. Now the only thing keeping me here is my wife's job. She will retire in 2 1/2 more years then we are Texas bound.

Re: Why do you live where you live?
I'm a California native and I've traveled to all but about 5 states, many by motorcycle and others via plane for business.
As many have said there are beautiful places and great people all over this great country of ours, but there aren't many, if any, with the variety, beauty and opportunity of California. The Ocean, mountains, desert, places with lots of people (LA and the Bay Area) to places with very few people. Young bright people with huge ideas changing the world are in abundance. For all of the haters, I say, move on. Believe me we will be fine without the negativity. |

As for living in Alberta,I hate the loooooong winters, wet muddy spring, the summers are awesome for fshing/camping minus the mosquitos. We have stunning sunsets on many lakes.I work in the oil patch and the money is pretty decent but I love warmer dry weather and am considering a home elsewhere,Cabo San Lucas Mexico is in our future if the dollar recovers big time. |

Re: Why do you live where you live?
Born and raised in the south-west of Western Australia, I have lived in the north-west but came back "home" due to work and family.
That's all about to change soon with a plan to move to my wife's home town of Phoenix, AZ. A bit of a change but we have her fathers sweet '65 C10 waiting for us to fix up. Hopefully the paperwork comes through soon and I can start looking for some work to pay for the '65. |

Im Western Washington State born (1959) and raised. We have everything you do in California, but thankfully more rain. I love me some green. I do wish we had a whole lot less Californians though, maybe you could give em all a shout and ask em what the heck they were thinking moving out of Cali, talk a little horse sense in to them and hopefully they will go home in droves ... Haha! I'm just busting your chops. I actually love California, especially Northern Cali. I could easily live there. Now Seattle, no way I would ever live in there. Because of my job I have to spend way too much time in a city I used to really love. |
