Re: 64 C10 Stepside "Jaybird"
I got the inside of the Passenger door shot with color today. I haven't shot any color in almost 2 years. I have been working on this door off and on since October of 2016. Nice to finally almost be done.

Re: 64 C10 Stepside "Jaybird"
Today's work. Started early this morning getting chores done around the house and then got the door prepped to spray the Blue. I missed a few very small dents and it orange peeled on mine just a little. But it's an old truck and not a show truck for sure. I thinned the paint a little extra but it still wasn't enough. I will reduce in more on the next round.
![]() ![]() Tape and masking pulled. Pretty happy with it. Chubbed as Rian would say. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Can't wait to get it mounted on the truck for the last time. Speaking of that. The hinge bolts were not ready so sandblasted and put them in paint this evening. ![]() The passenger front fender will be next in the paint booth. Fixed 3 small places with glazing putty and put another coat of high build on. Will block it out tomorrow after work and see if it is ready for paint. Hopefully get some color on it this weekend and get the inside of it painted as well and reinstall all the inside brackets and rubber pieces. ![]() Carefully got the door into it's temporary home for next few days. ![]() These photos popped up from 4 years ago. ![]() ![]() ![]() Thanks for stopping in, Bret

Before. ![]() After. Exactly 4 years apart. ![]() ![]() ![]() I think my lines are pretty close considering I painted these pieces separately and more than 3 years apart. ![]() ![]() ![]() thanks for stopping in, Bret

Re: 64 C10 Stepside "Jaybird"
So last Thursday I got the Driver vent window rebuilt. What a Pain in the ass that was. My fingertips are all still hurting.
First job was getting these factory style rivets into this metal impregnated seal. ![]() I had to use a drill bit to help guide it in. ![]() ![]() Next was fitting the outside seal into its frame. I didn't take any pictures other than this but this is the reason for my fingers hurting. Took a good 30 minutes and some soapy water to get it fully seated. ![]() Next was fitting the glass back into its frame using original style rubber cork glass setting tape. ![]() Use electrical tape so when you trim it you can't see the tape. ![]() Was actually easier than I thought it was going to be. ![]() Used an Exacto knife to trim off the excess. ![]() ![]() Still need to set the rivet that goes in the window hinge. I want to test fit in the door first to make sure everything lines up. ![]() New vs Old. ![]() Front fender parts out of the paint shop and ready to have the rubber assembled on them. I will be using some heavy gauge coated wire instead of staples. ![]() Another before/after 4 years apart. ![]() ![]() Bret

Re: 64 C10 Stepside "Jaybird"
Got all 4 fender brackets done with new rubber and staples installed.
Rubber that goes on top bracket that seals against the cab. ![]() Coated wire I used to make staples. Got it at the Hobby Store in the jewelry making section. ![]() Handmade staples ![]() First bracket done. I don't like how it bunches in the corner. But that's how the factory did it. ![]() ![]() Bottom side ![]() Both sides done. ![]() Lower splash guards. ![]() ![]() Used this small drill bit in my dremel to drill holes through the rubber. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() I made these staples the right width by bending one side putting it in the hole and the using the needle nose pliers bending right in line with the other hole. ![]() ![]() All 4 done. Can check that off my list. ![]() Bret

Re: 64 C10 Stepside "Jaybird"
Update.
Tearing down the Passenger vent window so I can rebulid it. I only took one apart at a time that way I can reference the other one if I had trouble putting it back together. ![]() I think this piece of rubber was past its lifetime compared to the new underneath it. ![]() Detailed pictures of how all these spacers and washers go back. ![]() ![]() Everything but the rubber. ![]() Next up taking the door glass out of the channels to rebuild them. I put tape on the ends to line the glass backup and I measured from the top and wrote each side down so I can get the glass back exactly where it goes. ![]() ![]() ![]() Knocked the window channel off with a block of wood and rubber mallet. Was pretty easy. Glad I did this. There was a lot of corrosion in the channels and the glass setting tape was completely rotted out. ![]() Everything blasted. ![]() I blasted a ton of bolts today too and painted several as well. Still amazed at how many bolts are left to go on the truck. ![]() Some more parts in Black paint. ![]() Upcoming project and its ingredients. ![]() 2 of the dogs sunbathing. ![]() Several things knocked off my list. Bret

Couple quick shots I got of the fender installed. Still have to pull it back off and reshoot. Just wanted to get a glance.

Re: 64 C10 Stepside "Jaybird"
Next up was finishing the Passenger vent window. Made a run to Lowes to get a 5/16 fine thread nut and some nylon washers.
![]() Installed the final rivet on the vent window. ![]() ![]() Last piece of rubber/felt to go on vent window. ![]() The driver window is missing this lock tab washer so I made a copy of the passenger one before buttoning all up. Its not pretty but it works. ![]() Installing the glass. ![]() Rubber felt has the slits for the corner so it doesn't bunch up. ![]() ![]() Jeep Cherokee door check. Fits perfectly. ![]() Passenger door is almost completely assembled. ![]() ![]() I attempted to install the felt that goes at the bottom of the window but had no luck and broke a tab on one of them. After research I see Precision makes a set with different clips versus the ones that come in their kit. That doesn't make any sense. Disappointed as everything else for the doors worked great. This is Precision brand. I have read to save the original clips but the ones on mine had already been replace and looked just like these. I have read several threads about it. I will either order the different set from Precision or maybe just screw them on like Astronaut did. ![]() The fruits of all my labor. This door shuts factory fresh and sounds amazing. I haven't even put any sound deadening in it yet. I am really stoked and can't wait to get the driver door done. The sound of this door takes me back to being a kid and shutting the door on my Grandpa's 64' Longbed. Click pic for video. ![]() Some Random shots. ![]() ![]() Bret
