1968 Side Mirrors, what original styles were available?

My '68 has an 'extra' set of mirror mount holes (Ref: first photo below). Two holes in line at top, and the 3rd at bottom, ALL holes 3 3/4" center to center space. (Not that it matters, but these are drilled on both doors)
Anyone know of a mirror that would mount in this pattern? (I've searched the web and the forum, but haven't seen anything)

I want to remove the larger mirrors currently on the truck (ref. 2nd photo) and go with something smaller, but would rather NOT drill any more holes for whatever I go with.

Thanks in advance,

Kevin

Re: 1968 Side Mirrors, what original styles were available?

Those sure do look like factory holes for original mirrors but not the typical pattern for the common stick mirrors used in '68 on pickups. Wondering if a cab and chassis model like yours used a unique mirror just for that application? Does your SPID show a mirror option?

Thanks for the reply Steve. Here's the SPID, but nothing about mirrors, but as you noted, the truck did come as a "Cab and Chassis", but I'm not sure what that may or may not dictate for mirrors.

Re: 1968 Side Mirrors, what original styles were available?

I have three 1968s all came with the standard factory sport mirrors, here are pics from 2 of the trucks.
As you can see the 1st owner removed the factory sport mirrors and added camper style.
The screws and backing plate are still in place
Yours look to be a larger style of the sport mirror

My '68 C/10 Stepside came with West Coast Jr mirrors. [''RV Jr Mirrors'' on the SPID.]
I love 'em, great rearward visability. No cops can sneak up on you.

Re: 1968 Side Mirrors, what original styles were available?

The mirrors on the truck now look like what GM called "Bus Style Extension Mirrors". There were similar aftermarkets as well. I'm on a new compouter so don't have any reference pictures or files available. There were mirrors I've only seen on dual rear wheel cab & chassis trucks that look like the standard 3-hole mount type I call stick mirrors but way longer. I think they were called "Long Side Mirrors". I have a feeling your truck had those. Do you know the truck's history? I believe it was bought to haul a camper. What a fantastic truck! Like something I would have ordered.

As for history, the 88 year old guy I purchased it from (in CA) told me he got the truck from a lifelong friend, who was a plumber in Arizona. The utility body (Servis) brand is vintage '68, and the fact that the truck was ordered as a cab and chassis could indicate the plumber ordered or at least purchased the truck new. For me the 'cool' part is this thing is an original 396 4sp too.

Kevin, I have two holes plugged in the side of my door. You can see them in this picture.

Here is the mirror that is on here. You are welcome to come and inspect anytime. LOL. It uses the three holes.

Re: 1968 Side Mirrors, what original styles were available?

Dan,
Yours is the more typical (3 hole) sport mirror mount. The bottom hole is less than 3 3/4" from the top holes. The bottom hole of the three in my Utility '68 is lower down.
...but I will eventually get up there to see the truck

Re: 1968 Side Mirrors, what original styles were available?

I still wonder if the truck had the long side mirrors. Does anyone have a picture of a C/30 with them? They seem to be rare. Most got the RV Jr option and the ones with the long sides mostly got changed, most likely. They aren't the greatest mirrors. I know Joes Junk knows these mirrors and had a C/30 with them.

My service truck originally had a 12’ Pafco van body on it and came with the long stick mirrors and had the same holes as his...used to have a pic but can’t seem to find it.

Possibly the angle but I don’t think mine were that long? Also the base was one piece similar to the ones Dan posted.

As Special K noted, thanks for this info. as it may lead to something.
Hopefully this may lead to a photo.
Thanks again,
Kevin

It was my info confirmed by Project King. I think factorystock has shown the pictures we are looking for. It would be nice to see Joe's old truck or others. Could it be in the Let's see the one tons thread

Thanks for the additional photos, I have definitely never seen a bracket like that before, but it sure looks like the exact bolt pattern I'm dealing with.
