Not a rag joint
The steering is loose on my 89 K2500. This seems sloppy, so I think I have found part of the problem.
What is it? I know rag joints from all my OLDER rigs, but don't know what to call this. Next question. How easy is this to replace and what would I expect to pay for the parts? Steve

Re: Not a rag joint
For about $40 or less, a lower steering shaft from a 1988-96 (I think) Jeep Cherokee (not Grand) from a junkyard will be the easiest bolt on swap, it also eliminates the rag joint and that part. I have one in my 1989 C1500 and never looked back.

Re: Not a rag joint
Since you're having problems with it, I would call it an on the rag joint.

![]() I don't know what it's called but I rebuilt the one on my 72. It's like a swivel joint. I don't remember where I got the parts. When I get to my service manuals tomorrow I'll look it up.

Re: Not a rag joint
AutoZone doesn't show it for an 89 but it shows the shaft for my 99. I thought they were the same but maybe not. I just noticed it doesn't have that upper joint either.

Re: Not a rag joint
This is probably what you're looking for. I used it in my '89 Cheyenne to replace its' sloppy rag-joint shaft. The number on the shaft is a GM number, and can be found on-line
