Re: 1971 GMC K15 4x4 radiator

OK. I got a MotoRad radiator T16V cap at O'Reilly's last night for about $8.
Performance Radiator called me. My 4-tier copper/brass unit is ready for picking up.

Re: 1971 GMC K15 4x4 radiator

Curious if you don't mind posting, what did the radiator shop find and the cost to repair? My 4 row radiator had two pin hole leaks, a weeping tank and was boiled and rodded for $30. Course, that was about 15 years ago,

My re-core for my 71 Chevelle 4 years ago was $435.

Gary, I can let you know what my 4-row copper/brass repair entailed & the cost. This was back in November 2016. They fixed a few small leaks, maybe 4 - 5, then flushed, pressure tested, & painted it for $140. I dropped it off, wife & I went shopping, and I picked it up a few hours later.

Mike, that was a quick turn around for a decent cost back then. Wonder what that same fix would cost in today's world and if it would be done as quickly?

Re: 1971 GMC K15 4x4 radiator

Good questions. This was the shop that I had previously talked with about aluminum radiators. Super guys to work with. I let them know when we were coming to town, and they were kind enough to do the quick turnaround because we live about an hour away.

Performance Radiator in Tucson charged me $252.18.
They said it was 20% plugged, and was leaking on both tanks. [Passenger Side was massive.] 225 labor, 20 shop supplies, 5 ''environmental fee'' and $2.18 AZ state sales tax.
[The estimate was for $250]
I had asked them to reclock the overflow tube from 3 o'clock [pointing at the battery] to 6 o'clock [pointing straight back] They only moved it to 4 o'clock.
With a 90* angle fitting, I can make out. I'm p!ssed I didn't catch that before I left the shop.
Other than that, I guess they did OK.
Fresh glossy black paint. 30 day guarantee.

Re: 1971 GMC K15 4x4 radiator

Considering what they had to do (minor mistake aside) that doesn't sound bad at all.
