It looks a lot like mine, rusty.
You do have the added bonus of having that angle brace on the back wall.
I see what you mean about using that to get the new floor installed in the right place.
Wonder why they stopped putting that brace in the later models.
I know, i'm glad it has them. It's almost worth adding on your own just to get the fit correct.

hopefully that back wall is still there after blasting!

Re: 68 K-10 SWB build thread - project Money Pit...pics galore!

FEDEX showed up this morning... less than 48 hours after ordering my SPI Epoxy Primer came in.

You can tell SPI is a no BS company, the instruction book tells it like it is. and they give you the owners cell phone number to call anytime for questions...

$140 out the door and free shipping from GA to PA in less than two days...that's awesome. Waiting for a call from the blaster to come pick up the cab, tailgate, grille, and cross sills....

I'll probably be doing the redneck driveway primer, if it's not windy!

Or I have to do it in the garage with a plastic wall hanging up...

Re: 68 K-10 SWB build thread - project Money Pit...pics galore!

work on some rot tonight... core support...

Heading over to the sand blasters tomorrow since it rained today. Guy said that I could use his shop to spray my primer... that's cool. It's an industrial kinda worksite so it's not some high end spraybooth.... but it's better than my driveway...

Re: 68 K-10 SWB build thread - project Money Pit...pics galore!

No big surprise on the rot after blasting... few pin holes in the area near the visors and a few in the grille. Little epoxy will fix those right up...

here's the worst I guess, the main support was rotting. I think i'll just plate over it with some steel and call it good. Bit of an accident with the dripping as you can see. The first gun I started using wouldn't adjust right so it friggin poured primer on the firewall... I trashed it and pulled out a newer one that I had... little sanding should fix it, or you could say it's double protected now!

Last pic is the two parts I forgot to cover! didn't notice them hanging up on the side until I had cleaned up...

Re: 68 K-10 SWB build thread - project Money Pit...pics galore!

And my tailgate... few extra holes showed up from a previous attempt at repair the dent. I'll be getting a stud welder to pull a few dings out of this and the cab. Every other bod part is new so it should be easy right?

I bet I dumped a gallon paint can worth of sand out of this sucker!

Worked on the newer style sway bar today... needed to get the old bushings out so that I could paint it with the same frame paint I used on my frame....

Had to employ the "poor mans press" on it...

Re: 68 K-10 SWB build thread - project Money Pit...pics galore!

No more flintstone mobile!

Finally able to get back to the truck today...

Took out the last main supports and tilted the cab on its back. Sanded off the black primer from the back and front of the new floor and sprayed some weld-thru primer to get ready for the install. Everything lines up pretty well except for the area behind the gas pedal. I also had to remove the min firewal supports so that the floor would go in easier. Glad I did because there was rust growning. cleaned up and primed now,

All in for now with sheet metal screws... gonna need a lot of work for the kick panel area. I also don't like how the lower A-pillar patch sits... I need to research some pics to see what it looks like correctly installed....

Mike, IIRC, ya may have to take a pie cut in your new floorboard. Seems like there was a little to much metal in the gas pedal area. Nice work, amazing how well it fits, seems like they knew what they were doing...

Hard to believe rust could hide behind that bracket

Re: 68 K-10 SWB build thread - project Money Pit...pics galore!

yeah, the gas pedal area doesn't have the same contour as the firewall, other than that it seems very close. Of course I'm missing most (all) of my B-pillars, A pillars and kick panels! Figure i'll get it as close as I can and make everything else fit to it. As long as the doors work then the rest should be ok...

On another note, I couldn't bolt my high hump in. The upper holes on the firewall aren't alligned (1/4" off), i'll try again when the cab is sitting upright...
