Vacations over!!! Back home now, time to get back to reality and the old truck. Going to try to figure out the distributor problem tomorrow. I did buy a couple toys in Pigeon Forge this week. I'll try to post some exhaust pics tomorrow. The die cast truck looks like Big Al's "Sylvester".

For those of you guys wanting to see the exhaust pics you will have to give me a while. I need it to be on a lift or jacked up to take some good pics. I tried this evening and I couldn't squeeze under well enough to take any decent pics, every picture was blurred or black. Thanks

Not much going on in my neck of the woods, my buddy came over and we figured out I have a bad coil causing the "no go" problems after it warms up. The HEI distributor is the only thing I didn't buy new on the motor. A friend of mine gave this one to me out of his BB crate motor, now I see why.... So today I ordered a whole new ready to drop in MSD distributor from Summit Racing. Maybe by this weekend I'll be ready for the first trip down the road. I'm keeping my fingers crossed....

Usually it is the ignition module in the distrib, but if a new assembly fixs it all the better.

That's what we think it is, I just went ahead and bought a new MSD one ready to drop in. That way I know every thing under the hood is new.

The little brown truck dropped off some more goodies today. Going to install it Saturday morning and hopefully the problem is history. My buddy that built the motor is going to come over and tune the carb and timing. Then hopefully a little road trip

Scott, when I was at the exhaust shop a couple weeks ago I did a burnout beside their shop. Even with the open rear end it spun 1 tire for about 4 foot then both of them for about 25-30 foot. I was grinning ear to ear when I got out

Scott, after the coil deal when I got home that day I don't think I would have made it very far doing a burnout. I guess it didn't get warmed up enough at the exhaust shop. That would have been embarrassing in front of a bunch of guys

Well I'm back to scratching my head again. We put the new MSD distributor in this morning and that may have not have been the problem. After my buddy got the timing real close we backed it outside and let it run for a while and then it happened again. We looked at the sight glass in the carb and there were no fuel. So for some reason after it runs a while I'm loosing fuel, we took the filter off and it did have some aluminum shavings in it. I suppose that happened when I had the filler neck raised up on the Boyd's tank. I took the fuel pump off and took it apart and cleaned it up too. Right now I'm draining all the gas out of the tank and I'm going to put an extra filter I have back at the tank also. Any suggestions guys?????

is the tank vented? I was thinking it the pump may be creating a vacume in the tank untill it cant pump any more fuel to the carb.

Yeah it's vented, I even unhooked the inlet line on the fuel pump and ran a line directly from the pump to a gas can so that way I know it's not sucking air or creating a vaccume. I'm lost!!!!

Vapor lock might be a problem... If it's not a clogged filter or line.
Are any of your lines near or touching a heat source? Exhaust, engine block, etc.? If I understand the theory correctly, the fuel is getting too warm and vaporizing in the line, before reaching the carb.

The line from the pump to the carb runs in front of the motor around the water pump.

I wouldn't think that would be a problem. I'm running mine along the block face, then up over the intake and I'm not having that issue. Hopefully you find it in the filter, or pump.

If you have an infrared thermometer, next time it does that, check the temp of the fuel line and engine around it. I'm not sure at what temp fuel starts to boil, but if you look it up and the engine or fuel line is over that temp, you may need to reroute the fuel line, or wrap it in a thermal material.

I'll check that also, I messed with it some today, no luck... I took the filter off and ran a hose from the pump to a gas can and same think happened again. Tonight I took the pump back off to check the rod, it moved freely and pulled it out to inspect and it looked fine. While the pump was off I worked it by hand and it seemed ok. I don't know what to do at this point???
