Re: Corvairs

Been doing a lot of reading on these things. I read an article that said the later model Monte Carlos have the same wheel base as a Corvair. It looks like a lot of work but quite a few people have mounted the Corvair body on the Monte Carlo chassis. Waaalaaa, a water cooled Corvair for LocDoc

Any Corvair experience out there?

Re: Corvairs

I have always liked the Corvair, especially the 65-69. I have owned a 64 Monza Spyder coupe and a 66 Monza coupe. I still think that the 65-69 2dr coupe is one of the best looking cars ever.

Re: Corvairs

I guess the artist didn't think seat belts for the kids were needed. Can't remember if they had seats belts. Growing up my folks had a corvair wagon and I would sleep across the back seat when we traveled. Now think about this one VW Karman Ghia with a Corvair turbo engine. Bought it when I was 17 and it was the dumbest purchase. Great for going fast in a straight line, but cornering, that was a scary adventure. Ended up pulling the engine due to a bent valve and putting in a VW engine.

Re: Corvairs

I'm now the proud owner of a Corvair. Arizona car, no rust, never been wrecked, just a couple of very minor dents. Automatic trans, which is exactly what I wanted. Even comes with a spare engine. That's the top boot laying on the roof.

Time to start selling off all my other projects and junk.

Re: Corvairs

You could just keep your junk, but you might miss your wife.

After some thought, you would probably miss your home if it's like it is around here, my wife would just put me out.

I think the only thing that keeps her from it is she don't want to spend the time training another husband.

I really wasn't ready, just being a looky loo. And I told him I was just in the first stages of considering this. I went ahead and asked him his best price (I hate haggling with a passion) He gave me a price and I couldn't say no lol!

Re: Corvairs

It's easy to forget about those Corvairs. You just don't see them hardly ever. I like the proportions of the early ones but I like the style of the later ones. Corvairs are a bigger and more powerful alternative to VWs.
Thanks to this thread I have spent hours looking at pics and videos of 'vairs.
Thanks for posting and congrats on your purchase. It looks like you have a real good one to start with.
I hope you got your wife something real nice too. What's that you say? This convertible is for her?

Re: Corvairs

my second car back in 1966 was a '62 corvair, 4-sd, it was fun to drive, it was dangerous if you drove it like a regular car. after a few times of finding myself looking in the rear view mirror at where i was heading or ending up in a ditch i learned to drive so the rear wheels wouldn't" fold under" and put the car in a spin.

the best thing about that corvair was that in 1969 i traded it in for my 65 suburban.
