Re: WAYNE's 58 APACHE BUILD THREAD

I got the new patch panel for the Dash installed. This is my second time welding in my life so I was a little nervous but it went O.K. It was pretty simple cut and weld then grind it back down. The only difficult thing was grinding the top of the weld because my grinder didnt want to stay where i was grinding but all in all its coming together

Re: WAYNE's 58 APACHE BUILD THREAD

Like Orrie and I mentioned in another post. We neeed a support group. These old trucks are bad enough but we are weird enough to add 4 wheel drive in the mix. All the extra components to deal with besides bringing an old truck back to life.
Like another drive axle, hubs, gears, transfer case, mounts, another driveline, linkages, ****er, blah blah blah...
But I've had 4x4s since I was 18 growing up in Oregon then moving to Alaska and I wouldnt have it any other way!! Hang in there man.

Re: WAYNE's 58 APACHE BUILD THREAD

Born in '57 raised in Medford, moved to AK in '81. I still love the PNW. Might retire there someday. Closer to cheap parts!! Freight to AK kills me.

Re: WAYNE's 58 APACHE BUILD THREAD

As another set of eyes, I noticed in the photos of the cab in primer, that the right hand rear cab corner is not contoured the same as the LH side, which looks factory stock in shape.

Re: WAYNE's 58 APACHE BUILD THREAD

yes, That was my first weld job so I didn't feel competent enough to due a butt weld so its overlapped. there is about a 1/16th of an inch difference on the weld surfaces. I know it looks bigger however for my first time Im happy with it, I didnt want to do bondo but its the only spot that will have a little.

Re: WAYNE's 58 APACHE BUILD THREAD

Well Im about 30 days off from R&R and I have specific orders from household 6 that no work will be done on the truck while I am home, however she made a deal with me. She would take me to Texas for the whole Race Weekend........I guess I can deal with that.
