Re: Legacy build

Here is where it got interesting. Back in the 80's, a drunk chick hit the truck while it was parked. She glanced off of it and ended up across the street, in a used car lot. It was ugly! Well, truck was fixed at a "Body shop". It did'nt look too bad, but was not right. So I blasted the bed to find this!

""

This metal was WAY stretched, hammered, torched, ect. A 3' long bent up, bondo filled, oil can. I attempted to do something with it, and ended up doing this,
""

And installing one of these,
""

Unless you have mad skill's, or alot of time on your hands (I had the latter), do not make this decision! This 1/2 bedside "looks" like a nice peice. It even kinda fit. BUT! all of the bend radius's are not nearly as sharp as the original. A month of beating, banging, cussing, and consumption of a few Coors lights, I ended up with this,

Being that I filled up the space for the spare tire, I made a new home for the 33" doughnut spare,

Made a cover for the fuel filler,

Shot some paint,

Threw in some Al's liner,

Added a stripe, and set it outside to bake,

Re: Legacy build

While I was working on the bed, the truck sat out behind the tent, It had a very fuzzy blanket on it, covered with a blue tarp. When I uncovered it to pull it back in, I once again learned to not ignore the truck. The hail and wind storms that we have had the last few months had taken it's toll. The blanket had worked it's way safely tucked into the cab. The blue tarp had very efficiently sanded down everything it contacted.

So, the cab, fenders, and hood have a second coat of shiny orange goodness!

So, before any other force of nature has it's way with my patience! I painted the stripe, and threw the bed on,
""
No it's not a dually, I set it there for effect.

Anyone that has ever taken a project this far, knows what a monumentious occasion this is. It's is such a rush that you need to mark the day with some sort of BLING!!!

There you have it! 21 month's in two days. You are up to date! I hope to drive it by May, so updates should be happening often.

I like it. I shot a gallon on the inside, and two gallons in the bed. I would guess that in the bed it is 1/8 to 3/16 depending on where it is. It shoots very good, but you better be ready to shoot when you mix it. Make sure you have some good ventilation and a monster respirator when you use it. The fumes will put you on your @$$.

I have used it on some industrial applications, we beat on it pretty good, and it still looks great.

I work 12's, so I get 7 days off in 2 weeks. I pretty much work on it 3 days a week, 12 or so hours a day. It's got some hours in it!

Got the wheels painted this week. Other that that, just doing a cut and buff on the paint. I also started restoring the trim.

Looks awesome. I'm curious to see how you like those KM2's. I really like the way they look, but also like the way my AT's wear.

Re: Legacy build

Grade A project, i can't wait to see how the rims and tires will look together.

Were the colors of the truck, hugger orange and white? Seeing your truck

makes me want to color my truck orange. Awesome fab job with the spare

tire mount.

Do you have some more pics of your track bar setup? I would like to see how you did it.

First of all, I am not a big BF Goodrich fan (mostly due to the 80's). I work with a guy that works with BF Goodrich in off road racing. He has not heard of any failures with this tire. He said they wear well, and are fairly easy on the ears. Time will tell, if I blow a cap on these, I will never run BFG again. There are two reasons for choosing them, they make a 33x10.50-15, and they really look awesome!

The original color was what you see in the cab, kind of a goldish brown. When it was hit by the drunk chick, it was painted the imron coppertone brown. 40 years of seeing it... it was time for a change. I have always liked Hugger Orange, and it seemed like a good time to shoot some.

I have hundreds of pics of the truck, I'll see if I can find some better pics of the TB.

I wished I could have lowered the tire a bit more, but it's hard to hide a 33 in the bed. Thanks for the compliment!

Took a pic of the tire in the well. It sticks up a little over 5", without the well, it's 14".

Re: Legacy build

Mounted all of the wheels for the first time to see if they were straight ( a smart man would have done that before putting all of that work into them).

They were all straight! Now I have to get this one removed, so I can paint it. then I will buy 4 more tires,

Re: Legacy build

Thanks for the compliments! It is going slow right now. I am restoring the trim, and it is tedious to say the least. I decided to change it up a bit, black chrome, with chrome accents. I will be doing it with powder coat, hope it looks good. I started polishing the trim, and that is WAY to time consuming.
