67-72 has hit their peak ? I'm not so sure about that . Every day there are new members joining let alone how many don't even know about this site ? We see so many coming on with mid model year C-20's they found and look at how many have been cut down to short beds ? What I've noticed is the surge in new owners and how much the price of good used parts have gone up in just the last few years . From what I've seen it's still on the rise and will be for a while .

Guys told me I was crazy buying them like this years ago running for $500.00 with clean titles , I just kept buying them whenever I found a deal . What's a 67 short bed running builder selling for now ?

I don't know about these trucks but I have seen collectable guns go down. Not long ago WWII guns, Winchester lever actions, and Model 12's were sky high for nice examples. They are still valuable, but they sit for sale for a long time and way off their high.
I think vehicles are a little different because multiple generations of people like classic. In guns it is more generation specific I feel. Most younger people would rather have an AR 15 for $700 then a nice lever action for $3000. I don't see this in vehicles. |

These trucks are not of the generation largely behind the 'trend'. Just like my generation, the Model As were bought and restored by our parents generation. We were building street rods. That older generation is vanishing and the hot rodders just keep on coming. These trucks are no different. Always had a following, always will.

You might think "Oh, well, the 67-72 was only around 5 years so wouldn't have a big following" but that doesn't explain the 69 Camaro's popularity, for example.
I think people will gravitate towards what they liked in their youth (square vs 6772) but the values on the 6772 will be higher and stay higher. You'll see $100K trucks in the next 10 years, I bet, but they will be RARE versions of these truck. Not one with a fake spid and a 307. And I've got nothing to sell!

I think there is an upcoming sunset or at least a 'max' on the value of these trucks due to a seriously changing demographic coming up behind us.
To understand this, all the truck guys here need only use their own 'kids' (ie: teens, young adults, etc) as a 'barometer' of interest relative to these classic-vintage vehicles. Most of us guys/enthusiasts here are older and are having to build or buy their trucks for their sons (or daughters) in an attempt to 'jumpstart' the classic vehicle interest process....noting that most of them (unlike most of us) are not actively doing this or funding this on their own....which relative to our younger experiences, is probably unique. Whereas most of us, when we were 16-22 yrs old, were probably a lot more self-driven on the hobby. I'm pretty sure that our fathers were, for the better part....not out in the garage, building (or buying) our first truck while we were elsewhere or gaming lol. The younger generation today does not have the same reference points for this kind of stuff or the same interest....so unless we prime the pump constantly on this for them, I think the market will soften a bit as we age and slowly drop out. That said, as long as we like our rides and are happy with what we pay for them there is no problem....but I for one, wouldn't bet my house against the value going up much more or for too much longer. If I'm wrong on this.....all the better I suppose, but I sense a bit of a sunset.....no problem, its all in the budget, lol. In the meantime tho'....I'm going to keep enjoying and driving the heck out of these things! All good Coley

My personal viewpoint (as if anyone cares ) is that the value of our trucks really doesn't matter much to me. I bought my K20 more than 41 years ago because I needed a pickup, not as a potential investment. It has served me well and after years of gradual decline, it's now getting a mild resto --rust repair, mostly, and fresh paint. Regardless of its value, I won't sell it. One of my sons has expressed interest in having it..... eventually.

.....respectfully, a few auction results does not a market make, as Barrett Jackson has shown.
A lot of guys walk out of the auction certain that they have $40-$50k sitting in their driveway....and that almost never pans out and is never the case. Nice drivers in nice condition can be found for $8-$12k all day long.... The truck in the above auction was a nice truck and the guy may have been lucky to get his money back....although he may not have gotten his labor costs back. I still stick with my take that given the 'new/next' generation' coming up behind us....there will be a decreasing market on these over the next 10-15 years as we age out of the system. I recently sold one pickup and finally bought a Chevrolet pickup. My wife thinks her minivan is a family car and my pickup is just my hobby. I will be glad to please her that the price of pickups rises and we can make a profit on the sale . Just kidding, I dreamed too long about this car to sell it. I bought a new pickup truck half a year ago. He was in poor condition. A pair of dents, rust on the body, but I could bring it in order. I also completely replaced the interior, bought a new suspension, replaced the shock absorbers. I Scary Link Removed and decided to continue to improve my pickup. I want to lift the truck body, this should improve off-road driving. I want to replace the wheels, buy a ladder for the car's bed. I plan to finish updating my pickup by summer. As far as I understand spare parts of the car will also go up in price?

Just got off the phone with Hagerty Insurance, inquiring on more coverage. He says these trucks have seen a great increase in value since 2017. He says they'll cover a first rate 402 Fleetside up to 57K.

Well my 2 grandsons know as much about these trucks as anyone on here they are 16 and 17 they work and saving money to buy one as there first truck they sit in mine and love rolling up the windows ask why did they stop using vent windows a questions I can’t anseur

My Mustang is insured for way more than I think it's worth. I could be wrong. I often am. But at least I don't worry about it being stolen. Go ahead and take it. I won't stop you. My truck is a different story. I'd get classic car insurance on it but I don't garage it and drive it all the time. It doesn't qualify.

The square bodies are the up and coming truck but the 67-72 wont be hurting either. I was offered what I think is a great price for my 77 suburban from a younger neighbor . I'm still thinking on it.
But what's is really getting me is the orphan cars are now bringing very strong money. I had my AMX appraised by two different companies . 1st was 27k the second 29k I had it insured for 15k .5 years ago you couldn't get 15 for a nice AMX .

OT, Hagerty Insurance is awesome. Time for renewal, we made some changes. She talked me up on my C20. Was at 4K, she said fair value was now 8K. Someone stopped by recently asking to buy it, gets you thinking, so I insured it at the break-even point of 6K
C10 will be approaching "concours" this year. Haggerty works off two books. First book showed 30K, boy was I disappointed. The other book is more detailed, and she said they'd insure for 50K. I ran with 35K, for now. I bought salvage rights on the truck as well, and they insured my parts. $180 annual increase. They'll even insure your tools. Good saleswoman
