Re: JR's 55 3200

nice fix on the oil pump mount.
stock I6, rack and pinion steering. i like how your mixing it up

shaving the dash? or installing a big radio?

a word of advise from someone who dropped his cab...
check your door and windshield fit before you proceed with any work on the cab
those curved art deco A-pillars have no strength, i believe what holds the roof up is the windshield
my firewall was pushed in a bit, A-pillar bent and roof was down. purple line shows an exaggerated deformation.
here is an old skool body guy jacking the cab back into form

Re: JR's 55 3200

Thanks guys. Ogre, i had seen the pics of you having this done on one of your threads and thought...... "Ouch! I hope mine dont need this, not so sure I would know where to start!"
When i removed the doors and the windshield, everythin seemed to fit ok, just worn out hinges on the doors.

I have a bodywork book from the 40's or 50's that shows how to jack these old cars and truck around like that. Back then stuff was fixed, not totaled and tossed like today. Denee encountered the same thing, bought the truck without the windshield installed and she found out why.

you dropped the cab after removing the doors and windshield.
i'd recommend installing the doors w/ new hinges and windshield with new rubber to check.
just voicing what i had to go thru, take it for what it's worth.

I will check it out for sure! This picture is misleading though....... I gently rolled the cab up on its firewall in order to get the boards out from under it. I had boards under it to support it while moving it with the loader. Rolling it wouldn't warp anything would it? I have had it on its firewall a couple of times when getting to the underside of the cab, is this bad??

That's a relief! With all the other challenges I've had with this truck, I didn't want to face something like that!

Turns out, the flywheel that came on my engine is not original, and I can't seem to find a clutch kit for it, so I'm having to reuse the pressure plate and run a slightly smaller diameter clutch disk until I can find a period correct flywheel, that is not oversized, that parts can still be found for!

Re: JR's 55 3200

Quick update......
I got the engine and tranny installed in the frame, and got the ole girl fired up! I did have one BIG hiccup, i bought an aluminum shroud and electric fan, made an aluminum frame to mount it to the original radiator, BUT....... Not enough room with the loooooong old time 6 banger! I went to 10 and 12 inch fans staggered, but still running a little hot. I might have to ditch the original radiator, and get a high efficiency one and then figure out what kind/type of fan to use.
Anyone out there out there putting a V8 in a Chevy and using the original radiator? Or would like an original radiator with a fan and shroud? The radiator was vatted and tested to 25 psi (it calls for a 7 psi cap). The set up would fit on a V8 because they are shorter! (Length)

Been "busy" with the ARMY. I took a break after getting the engine running, then I found myself in another country! I have started looking things over again though, and hope to get back at it before too long. I have another "trip" that I have to be gone for about a month, but then......

What all did you have to do to use the no limit power rack? How does it work? Thank you nice build.
