I did the same thing sluggish did. You have to be VERY careful when you're wallerin' out the hole in the back for the deeper RPM gauge. It sits deeper than the fuel gauge did. But, it does fit perfectly. Autometer brand. Pro comp IIRC. You just put the fuel gauge where the clock was. Notice the hole in the lens for that clock knob. Or if you're lucky your lens has no hole cause you never had a clock. I'll be plugging the hole. Digital water gauge cause I was tired of the stock junk lying to me. Sorry about the low quality pics my camera sucks at night.

Hey sluggish. Does your RPM gauge seem like the needle doesn't go above 2k RPM's much? I was expecting it to act more like a normal tach but its a 10k RPM tach so its like the needle doesn't move around a whole lot. Or something. Did you notice this? I have tbi 350 with 700R4 and 2:73 rearend. lol. So maybe unless you really beat on it, it just doesn't go about 2k much. I can get it to go about 2500 rpm but it immediately shifts.

Wow. That looks SUPER clean.. Can you provide any information on that? So far the little SunPro attached to the column is my favorite for what I want to do with my 77 K10, but now you've changed my mind. How can I do this? Thanks for any additional information you can provide.

Re: Tachometer , any cool ideas?

I ordered the tach from GMsportssalvage. Since then I've noticed LMC started caring tach's, but I'm not sure how they look and operate.

You need to do some trimming to the cluster housing but other than that it plugs right in.

The only thing I would check is that the lettering match your speedo...I know the website lists 1973-1986 but the text on the guages changed sometime in early 80's I think. Hope that helps. Thanks

Re: Tachometer , any cool ideas?

Ok so for $20 I bought a Dragon Digital Gauge off Ebay....

I cut and opening in the plastic lens and metal to fit it..

Then I sanded down the backside of the gauge bezel so it sat flush

I also used a couple 4 pin connectors to make a harness so it is easily disconnected with the cluster

Hindsight I probably could of cut away the lens area and mounted it on the top of metal and not had to sand the bezel at least as much

Its pretty easy, the hardest part is just getting the gauge pod out of the dash because the bottom you kinda have to persuade out from behind the lip of the dash. There is a round clip on the cluster that surrounds the cable, you just have to push the bottom of the tab back towards the cluster then pull the cable out. Yes HVAC controls use the same bulb and holder.

Re: Tachometer , any cool ideas?

For mine I just cut out the un-used hole in the cluster, bought a generic tach, painted to match and stole a needle from another cluster to make it look close to something from factory...

I found a factory tach and small gas gauge on Craigslist for $40. Is it easy to install in a non factory housing? Iv never had one apart.

sounds like a score,
as long as it's not an idiot cluster, it should work with some wireing changes
but it's gona need support behind it.
normally there is a cut out,and a piece added to hold the tach
have a look

Re: Tachometer , any cool ideas?

i always buy a autometer street tach, then hang it from the dash pad right in between the speed and gas gauges. it cuts off a little of your speedo and gas guage, but not enough to make it matter, like above 70 on the speedo and below a 1/8th tanks on the gas (depending on how you are sitting) and i think, its the cleanest looking way to do a aftermarket tach.
