nice to see you still wrenching away and getting things done on the old girl. I like that grain on that fir bed wood and the grill looks perfect in satin black

Re: New member, old 57 3100

Thanks Kim and Tim.

Heading out to the Rockabilly Bash out at Wild Horse Pass this weekend, should be a killer throwdown. The front end is fairly blacked out now, just wish I would have painted the radiator support cross bars black. Oh well it can't all be black.

Took 8 hours to make two silly wheel wells, probably a 30 minute job with a shear and brake....still need to finish weld them up.

Re: New member, old 57 3100

we are definitely flying. The truck isn't built to drive quite that far yet. Plus, we'll still have sow on the ground up here in mid April,

Just read your complete build thread. Gotta love those Fleetside boxes...but aren't you missing a couple of eyes? Keep up the progress and continue posting the pics.

Just wait its going to get stranger. I am hunting for a 55/56 GMC grill, hood, bumper, mustache setup. Its the only kind of "hybrid" I will ever own.

Read the link, looks like a nice setup and not bad install. Know anyone with the same setup on their truck.

Re: New member, old 57 3100

Are you getting tired of being beat up driving a straight axle everyday?

You know its not that bad here in Phoenix, we have pretty smooth roads. From the beginning of this project I wanted a truck that I could beat on and roast around corners. Being my rookie build, I severely underestimated how much every little part would cost. I also rushed my timeline because it was to be my daily driver.

Round 2 will go a little differently. Biggest difference is I will have a different daily driver so I won't be rushed. Hell, if anything I am afraid that difference alone will cause the project to run a little long...

Mostly doing homework now, probably won't start tearing the truck apart until this fall.

We all have someone to blame right! LOL. When I met my buddy Art and first saw his 55 fleet, I knew I had to have one. Phase II it seems will be at least a year away. I have the opportunity to pay down all of my debt so taking advantage of it.

I will also just add vapor lock sucks. Had to insulate my fuel lines and add a wooden carb spacer to get it under control.

Re: New member, old 57 3100

First let me say I love your truck, and you are partly to blame for me hanging a fleetside bed behind my 55. The stance of your truck is spot on (love the pictures in post 97 and 38!). If you don't mind, would you post the height to the bottom of the rocker at the front of the door? It looks like mine will be around 7 inches, and I wondered how much lower yours was. Thanks, and enjoy the ride!!!

Re: New member, old 57 3100

I'm also thinking of swapping out my dropped axle and mono leaf set up for a Camaro clip. Our roads up here are just to rough for the axle set up.

Thanks for the compliments Ricky and sorry this took so long. My rocker is 7" as well. Best of luck on your build.

Isn't your wifes truck Camaro clipped? At least you know what it will drive like right? Honestly, I don't see driving my truck anywhere with rough roads, it just wouldn't be safe. Our silky smooth roads make it tolerable but not enjoyable. That will hopefully change next year. I am thinking C4 setup lately.....

Re: New member, old 57 3100

You prob don't drive it enough Tim to matter especially after the cost of just installing the axle.

Re: New member, old 57 3100

I had a moment of regret the other day, but that's now passed. I'm going to change the size of my front tire to be a little bit taller to give a bit more cushion because those 215 60's are a bit on the skinny side of things. I'll change a few things on it that will be a hell of a lot cheaper than swapping everything out.

The wifes truck has a Nova clip in it and will run a lot smoother which will be our highway cruiser and mine will be that beat the hell out of you round town cruiser
