I am starting as soon as I finish my shop addition. I'm adding 40 feet to the rear or possibly just building a new shop that's 30X40'. I am just waiting on a dirt work quote. I will be breaking ground no later than October. Just getting ducks lined up.
Yes, I will start a thread in alternative tinkering section in this forum. It will be a ground up just like this one, cheap and slow

Great to hear about the extension or new shop. I am looking forward to following along on the Camaro build. Don't mind if it is slow, that is the way I work.

Looking forward to having an actual shop to work in and a space to store this truck and boat. My current space has a bunch of junk that can go if / when I add on

Re: 1969 Short Wide

I've been very busy the last few weeks restoring on my inner fenders. I thought about going the aftermarket route but decided to just bite the bullet and fix these piles of rust. Notice, the previous owner used bondo to patch, I decided steel would be better.

With these pieces, I'm happy to say this truck is 100% GM sheet metal (not including patches ).

Hope to install them and get more pics soon.

Re: 1969 Short Wide

Nice job on the inner fenders. What's the copper colored stuff you sprayed on your weld areas, before welding?

Thanks Duane,
I use U-Pol copper weld through primer under the patches where I can't get to after it's welded. LINK

Thanks Keith, I'm going to try to get them installed this weekend. There's more to it than just bolting them on. I have to tweak the alignment enough to drive to alignment shop, install power steering adapter fitting, and new power steering hoses. I think there's a few other things I need to tidy up under the hood too.

Snapped these on the cell the other night:

Going to the alignment shop sounds like last details to me.

Thanks Jason, it probably seems like a waste of time to most guys on here, but to me it's something that makes me proud to save rusty GM metal.

You're spot on with the shop. The addition is more of a stable for my trucks and boat. I think the current shop will work so much better without all the extra stuff stored in it.

If I had my way, I would just build a nice 80 X 100 with a "dirty" area walled off. 14' walls, a lift, paint booth, man cave, etc....

Thanks Mike. Same mother different generation. I did find out my old truck was built in St Louis. Kinda cool when you dig into the history of these things.
Yep the long journey is coasting home.
