A really big project - 52-53 White 3000

I really don't need another project, but I couldn't resist this 52 or 53 White 3000, I think it'll make a great ramp truck.

I love those things. Whats it have for an engine/powertrain? Any type of time frame for working on it and making progress?

Re: A really big project - 52-53 White 3000

The engine is a 150hp 6cyl flathead, with a 5 spd tranny. Sadly the previous to previous owner loosened the plugs and left it, that let water in and seized the engine. I've got a spare block but it doesn't look much better, I'd like to put a diesel in.

As far as timeframe goes, I've got to finish my 4x4 first and that one's on hold until I finish some household renovations.

That`s awesome.I`ve rarely seen a long tandem. Not that I`ve seen any at all,but one,in the past few decades.they ended up with the name Mustang.when i`d see one back in the`70s I`d say,Hey look!A white Mustang!"And,whoever i was telling would always look all around and say,"where?I don`t see one."then Id say,"There. That red truck."
Here`s one i saw at an antique truck show last fall:

Re: A really big project - 52-53 White 3000

I'd put it on another chassis. A tandem ramp truck is gonna be real cumbersome. I've never been a fan of Dayton wheels, plus I see air tanks, hope you've got a CDL. That body on a dually chassis would be killer though.

Re: A really big project - 52-53 White 3000

No CDL but getting an air brakes cert is pretty straight forward. The tandem axle might be what gets me to put it on another chassis. I have to see, this is a pretty long term project.

It took me about a year to find this one, in case it's not obvious it used to be a fire truck tanker.

Thumbs up Re: A really big project - 52-53 White 3000

it looks like it would fit on a old chevy box van frame. find a old bread truck and do some measuring. then find a tank for the back and turn the tank into a big sleeper. hillbilly motorhome.
