Gun Rack

I'm pumped! I was able to score a set of gun racks for the 68 yesterday! They had been up in the loft of a barn forever and had a lot of crud on 'em but they cleaned up nice. And they were free to boot.

Re: Gun Rack

I live in an area where you still see plenty of them in use. Was getting snow tires mounted on my wife’s car last week. Guy pulled up next to me, gun rack had a Winchester 30/30 sitting pretty. Ended up taking guns for over an hour....what’s your plan ?

Well where I live, a little East of Indianapolis Indiana, a weapon wouldn't last long showing in the rear window but I'm going to mount the rack up anyway just cause it's cool.

Don't be surprised if:

Someone breaks your windows, looking for any other guns you might have stored under the seat, in the glove-box, or behind the seat.

A gun rack advertises that a gun is somewhere to be found. Ask Law Enforcement. It creates the idea. It may send an unintended messages to wrongly-wired recipients.

If you install it, go ahead and keep the truck unlocked. That way the zombies that are looking for a quick drug score won't bust the windows looking for the long gun hidden behind the seat.

If they don't find a gun, you might end up blessed if the would-be thief doesn't take out a knife and score your seats for leaving him empty-handed.

Personally, I wouldn't want to come out in the morning, anywhere and find the kind of evidence I am describing. Your mileage may vary. Maybe you could put them over your fireplace instead and be able to look at them more.

WOW , Now I know thieves and drug addicts are everywhere , But if I were you I'd be moving to a better neighborhood . That's one thing about living "Out in the sticks" If something like that happened here it would only happen once ...

Re: Gun Rack

I sure am glad I live in Eastern Oregon ! Like the fellow member in Montana law and order still exists in some parts of the country. My GMC sat untouched behind the furniture store before I was able to talk the owner into letting it go. It was in plain sight All those years...

Re: Gun Rack

They look great. I like em and would love to have one in my truck too - but actually "using" one nowadays, as in actually leaving a rifle in one's truck, forget about it. It's just begging for a dirtbag to break your windows and steal it. Ah the good ol days. And this is TEXAS! Nice to have for transporting to go hunting or to a range if you're gonna be with it the whole time, but that's about it. But they are just plain cool

I have that same set in one of my truck. They carry a gun once in a while and keep my 4Ft level safe...

Re: Gun Rack

I used toalways run those in my trucks. Same one, rubber coated. I also ran them on the driver side of my Blazers inside the side window. Yep, used to could leave a gun in the truck back then. I always kept my 4' level and a fishing pole when not a gun, which was only when I was going to use it. The only thing, other than drilling holes, that I didn't like and the reason I no longer use one, is I always keep my seat pushed back hard against the back of cab. The gun rack causes divits/dents in the back of the seat

Re: Gun Rack

I bought one but my wife won't let me install it as it will put a hole in the back of my head if I get into an accident and she would like to reserve that right.

My Dad's 68 GMC had one for its entire life, but up in Sask you can't even put a baseball bat in the rack, he got stopped for that and had to remove it!

I live in Saskatoon and would tell the cop to give me a ticket, if he could figure out a charge, and see you in Court.

Re: Gun Rack

According to Critical Race Theory taught in many schools, that gun rack implies racism. Consequently, having one in your vehicle validates any damage caused to your vehicle by peaceful protestors/model citizens. I wish I were kidding.....

Re: Gun Rack

Not the old style but I've seen some plastic models that slide into the rubber window gasket .

Tn has some pretty lax gun in vehicle rules but you can't "display" them in the back window anymore . I've seen some holding fishing poles .

I'm welding up some gun rack mounting screw holes today .

Re: Gun Rack

I put one in my truck and I love it.
Its handy for a variety of things....to hang a hat or a jacket, or a fly fishing rod, or currently, my rolled up fender protector for when I work under the hood.
The funny thing about the fender protector.....is that when it is rolled up and in the rack it look like a rifle from about 20+ feet away, until you get up close.
I had a cop follow me for a couple of miles last year checking it out...then driving up along side me and checking me out...had me confused at first until I realized what he was looking at, lol.

They are a cool accessory for sure and still pretty useful.

All good

Every truck in the parking lot of my high school in Darby Montana had them and most of them had a gun in it. We never locked our door and no one ever took a gun!!

Re: Gun Rack

I have one in my truck that I installed in 2015. The cab had holes and marks that lead me to believe there was one in there for a long time. The original was not symmetrical to the seats. My OCD had to make a choice to leave it or drill a 2nd set of holes.
