Re: 68 Barnfind

It deffinitly took me a while to find one that was un-molested by someone else, I've been looking around for a few years now for a shortbox and with luck found one 10 miles from my place from the original owner. Picked the truck up for $500 which didn't seem too bad. Shes in not too bad of shape, seems to be some front end damage, and of course the usual rockers, cab corners etc... But for Alberta winters the metal held up fairly well.

VERY cool! That's a GMC 910, correct? It looks like the Canadian-only badge on the fenders. I love seeing the 9-series Canadian trucks because 99% of the people here the US have never heard of them.

Re: 68 Barnfind

yea you bet, shes a 910 and from what i've seen so far it seems as if the shortboxes were pretty rare in the 910 series. If anyone could fill me in about what makes the 910 different other than the obvious gm vs chev that would be great!

From what I seen, it was a Canada only thing. There were no 910's sold in the US. That truck would have had a GMC 1500 here, 3/4 tons were 2500, and 1 tons were 3500. The canadian models were 910, 920, and 930. I think only the 67-68's were like that, but I'm not sure about that. I've never seen a '69 - '72 9-series truck. Either way being that there are so different, I would definitely leave it that way.

$500 that is a steal (judging from the pics ) awsome find!

Re: 68 Barnfind

Yea im also pretty impressed with that lil' bit of knowledge! As for direction on the truck, the frame is at sandblasting right now... then were going to start mocking everything in, my vision is more towards the pro-touring style, thinking an LS1 would sit nice, 4l60e tranny, keep the 12 bolt, but put 3.73's in... Disc brakes on all 4 corners, probably a nice 4/6 drop, and im really wanting those solid trailing arms from EEC, does anyone have anything to say about them? Still undecided as to what i want with the body, I already built a 95 sonoma on air-bags, and fully shaved so im planning on keeping this one fairly original, My heart was set on installing a 67 chevy front clip, but i do still love the GM's front end. So thats for debate. As for interior it will be basically stock, bench seat, all black interior... with a nice chrome IDIDIT automatic column! O yea and im deffinitly keeping the wood box floor! who out there makes a great kit for those... If anyone has any further ideas or plans chime in, because im at the point where i can make all these decisions right now.

Re: 68 Barnfind

Sounds like you have a great plan for it. Being a V8 straight shift truck, it very well could already have 3.73's in the rear.

As far as the front clip goes, I would normally lean toward changing over to the Chevy because 67-68 Chevys are my favorite, BUT being that it is a 910, I'd to think long and hard about it. (I'm actually glad I'm not the one having to make that decision) Either way it will be a beauty! What color (I believe you would say colour) are you thinking for it?

Re: 68 Barnfind

This is the extent of the rust to the cab, doesnt seem too bad for a canadian truck, the box sides are toast due to it being an old work truck... there are dents galore so replacing the box sides seems like the way to go! "Colour" even though color is so much easier to type is still up in the air, I was dead set on house of kolor "tangello orange" with possibly a white top, but now im kinda leaning towards a anti-freeze green colour. But no decisions have been set in stone yet.
PS: and yes that is a wood burning stove in the garage lol, heat is expensive and hey Alberta is COLD!!! and that sucker heats the garage up toasty warm

Re: 68 Barnfind

Nice find! And in fairly decent shape.
I'll keep an eye on the progress.

So you got , Marilyn Monroe?? on the wall. Thats what it looked like to me.
Hey I like your wood stove in the garage. I have been trying to get mine installed for awhile now. They do make it nice and toasty.

Nice find! It looks like that barn was ready to swallow that truck up before too long.
