A Shout Out for CG

Just wanted to put this out there for board members to assure them there are some really great people on the truck board. Thought about placing this in the Member Review section but here it should get a better exposure and read.

Recently, about three weeks ago, "CG" aka Mark way out in the NW Washington state purchased a 70's CB unit from me. Weather turned nasty in the NW, Mark had weather and other things to deal with and I received a PM saying he would be a bit slow to send payment since I don't do Paypal. Replied it was not a problem and to take care of business that was more pressing first. Got a PM from him just the other day saying payment was on the way tucked inside a "package" with some items he thought I "might" like.
Wow, what a understatement for sure!

Below are the pics of what he sent me. Two truly remarkable in detail die cast '57 Chevrolet cars he has had for.........years I'm sure! One is from Danbury Mint and one is from Franklin Mint. Attention to detail is fabulous and they will surely take a place of honor in my die cast curio cabinet.

Don't quite know what to say other than to say "Thank You so much Mark!"

Have thought for a long time there are some truly great people on this truck forum and again this confirms that thought. Ironhorse aka Gary B.

Re: A Shout Out for CG

Now don't do like my 6 year old grand son does with the cars I give him ... Smash up derby! Glad you like em, I know they went to a good home =)

BTW I have a Jim Beam 57 Chevy decanter too, never broken the seal. Ive had it for a long time, my guess is 30 years plus.

I have three younger brothers and when there is only one of us left, that brother will have a drink.

That's what you're supposed to do when you're 6 years old.

Very nice gesture BTW.

Okay.

Liz didn't pay my taxes last year.

And she didn't get me out of that speeding ticket that I got.

She won't change the oil in my truck. Now I have to do it myself.

Enough?

And I agree CG is defiantly an asset to the community. And please don't ban me for being a smarty pants. I'm not right. I can't help it.

Re: A Shout Out for CG

Let me first say, before commenting on CG's further generousity, that Ironhorse is another great member here who has the sense of brotherhood/sisterhood (Hi Liz... and the rest) and the overall sense of community this place offers, if willing to join in. He has worked with me on purchases, never ruffled feathers, has good breath, and presently is sending a part for my pre-inspection because we agree pictures don't always tell the whole story. And this came about by him remembering I had a desire for such a part and first PMed me before listing it. Thank you for being a truly good real person member.

I gave that exact same Danbury '57 convertible to a friend and truck board member Liftmeup because he has unselfishly given me help when needed and had a '57 Chevy convertible he had forever. He did finally sell it to a man who had religiously stopped by year after year making offers on it. Reason being he had just had a shop built and the money was enough to pay it off... and then some.

Thanks for starting this thread on CG being a more than great person/member with generosity that is unrivaled. I've been meaning to do the same thing. I could tell you about all the PMs between us about his general concerns over the state of the board over the years. I could tell you about him sending a bunch of Vintage Truck magazines because he knew I'd enjoy them (they were old getting tossed out anyway ), I could tell you about the two t-shirts he picked up for me at Bonneville Speed Week (Probably bought for himself but didn't fit ), but what is really amazing is he has had this '68 GMC grille he has been saying I can have for a few years (all talk up till now ) that he actually did send me free of charge!!! Yes really! It's a real nice one if anyone wants to PM me about buyi...... just kidding. I will never sell this. I'll build a truck around it before doing that. I want to return the favor in any way that would help you, Mark. What I'd really like to do is come out there and shake your hand and hopefully enjoy some fun time together (got a place a feller could crash a month or two-three? ). Seriously, maybe come turn wrenches a bit, work on your house, make all your decisions about your hoard for you , anything. Thank you Buddy!

The only thing I will say is that if you go make sure it is during the Monroe swap meet. You will thoroughly enjoy that.

Thanks for the good advice. You know? I have wanted to get out to that meet and the gathering of goofs ever since I joined this site. That Washington state group was one of the tightest warmest bunches, I could tell. I came this close (picture thumb and index finger almost touching) to buying Livrat's Medium Gold GMC 3500 frame mount Chinook (lord I hope my memory serves) camper. My plan was to get out there somehow and drive it back, beginning with spending time in the area getting to know those folks and getting it ready for the trip. Yup, back then time was the issue and the reason it didn't happen.

Re: A Shout Out for CG

Thanks again for the nice words, but honestly Ive received stuff from many of the folks that have replied here (Ironhorse for one)... gratis!!! And I know Ive had board deals that have gone buttery smooth with several on this thread too.

LOL, yes Tim I can be a little slow on getting stuff out there, and I haven't fit in to a medium since I was in Jr High lol! I know next time me and my honey make an east coast trip we are going to look you up.

Re: A Shout Out for CG

Uhhh... (clears throat) ahem, the Ts were large. DOH!! I wore medium in HS and a little after, but the snug t-shirt look went out of style so I changed with the times

Everyone, let's not forget CG's contributions to the board here, including some fun with plucked chickens

Re: A Shout Out for CG

I wanted to add my 2 cents and will agree that CG (Mark) is an all around great guy and a great asset to the board, I know him personally and he has gone out of his way to help me out several times..

Tim, Even though its been the better part of 15 years since I had that motorhome your memory is still serving you well, it was a GMC/Chinook.

I think its time you made a visit, hint hint ... It will only cost you a plane ticket and maybe a meal or two, I will pick you up at the airport, you can stay in our Air BnB for free. (you will have a 2 bdrm house all to yourself) and will drag you along to the Monroe swap meet in May. Although I will admit even though our presence at the swap meets has dwindled down considerably its still a great meet..

Re: A Shout Out for CG

I won't argue with you about being due for that visit. I'm sure it would be a spirit raising experience I would not be forgetting. And you are too generous with your lodging offer. Great to know. I'd want to make myself handy in some way for sure. I guess a lot of the groups that were so tight back ten or more years ago have been thinning out, if not dissolved.

That's pretty much how it is here, dissolved. I am in touch with and see many of what you could have ever called a group, but only one on one. I just went to walk the first local swap meet of the year yesterday... alone. I did try to hook up with one fellow member, but our timing was off. There is another in two weeks and we will be sure to arrange to meet prior to going in. When I'm set up at Carlisle is when I get to see all the faces, and sometimes those visiting from other areas.

Here's 72Tigger (Indiana) and me in the heat of August relaxing at the truck show last summer
