I used RP, BUT, not break in oil. I talked to Jegs tech and they said I need break in oil for new cam...I was given wrong info when I did this last cam. I was told break in oil is not needed if just doing a cam replacement...WRONG.

This time, I'm putting in a mild "Hotrod" lope cam.

I too once wasted my cam in my 327, solid lifters that constantly required adjustment, let a buddy borrow it, he tightened them down to hard I think, kept to much pressure on lobes, smoked the cam. Took out at least 5 lobes if I recall. Good luck man

Just checked the studs on the new heads. One stud is pulled up about 1/4in, and one got boogered up from the rocker sliding off.
So, maybe the cam is ok, BUT, if I got to start from scratch again, another new cam will go in, screw in studs and guide plates.
First off I will have my old heads flow tested, see where I'm at with those heads. If they are ok and cheaper to freshen up than doing screw in studs on the new heads I may go back to them.
So I'm back at the starting line with this truck.

I just ran across your thread. That's one awesome Blazer. I love seeing Blazers nearby...one of these days I will be in the market!

I am in the Charlotte area, so if you guys come down for Good Guys, let me know. I went last year and it was a great time. I'd love to see this thing in person.

It runs again

The cam is fine.
And I learned the difference between old heads and new replacement heads

Now I need to find some new a/c lines. Mine ruptured when the compressor had been moved to many times. Two steps forward, one step back.

Glad you got it fixed!

What was the actual problem?
What did you do to fix it?

The new heads require self aligning rockers. Look at your crate, it has round push rod guides. The old heads have slot guides.
I had to re-stud 2 studs, new rockers, that's it.

Well, after 6months of no internet we finally have it again...It took 10yrs of negotiations before a provider would commit to bringing service to our community...BUT i won't go into the politics involved...SOOO, now i'm back online and itching to play catch up with all my forum buds. I'll start with some pics from the last rat rod show I went to, a lot of really nice cars were present, but here are just a few...

I've seen several of those but there were many others I hadn't seen. Did you check out the writing on the back of the truck with the Jetson's license plate? I have it saved in a pic somewhere if I remember that truck correctly.

70k5, it isn't a roller cam you're using is it? About ready to fire mine, curious.

Flat tappet...The cam was fine as it turned out, it was pulled heads studs that gave my trouble, on new GM heads no doubt...my bad because i needed self aligning rockers with the new heads...I did not know that
