Re: 56 shop truck build

With another successful cruising season wrapping up in these parts of Canada it's time to think about some upgrades. I have been sitting on the fence about swapping my dropped axle and mono leaf set up out for a Nova clip I have but I'm not sold on the idea yet.

I think I'm going to look at converting my steering to a cross steer application so I can run a tilt column and add in some front and rear sway bars. Mix that with a new wheel and tire set up and I think we'll have a full winter.

I still intend on spraying the truck with a satin clear coat over the winter and then doing the door lettering and pin striping.

Here's a shot of it parked in front of the shop we just finished siding

Re: 56 shop truck build

This is our current winter project. An ALL Chevy powered 27 Model T roadster sitting on a 30 Model A chassis. It'll have a 365HP small block 350 with a turbo 350 and a 3.73 rear end from an S10 for a power train.

Sounds like you've got a bit of a plan! Maybe Unisteer has a rack that will work for your truck?

Re: 56 shop truck build

Dubie - Your build is very inspiring to me. I hope to build my 59 in the same "shop truck" style this coming winter with a dropped axle, etc. If you happen to decide to go IFS I would be interested in buying your solid axle stuff.

Re: 56 shop truck build

sounds good Razz. I just got the truck back out on the street after 7 months of winter storage. If I do decide to swap over to the IFS, You'll be the first to know. And thanks for that cool compliment. I'm glad someone gets it hahahha

Re: 56 shop truck build

Well the 60 year old steering box puked out the oil seal the other day. I'm pretty thankful and proud to have a wife that is a Industrial Mechanic and had the steering box rebuilt in an hour. We're back in business and cruising again

Re: 56 shop truck build

Well, I ended up selling both the 70 GMC and the shop truck a few weeks ago. Now it's time to build this 27 roadster and I've picked up a 24 Chrysler which we will get started on in the spring

Re: 56 shop truck build

I don't know if you found the H.A.M.B. yet but there's a ton of info there. I'm also doing two Model A's. A 29 Pick up that's original and a 30 Coupe 50's style.
