Dumped
So I have been saving up for a nice date for the gf. Recently she has been really distant and today she dumped me. Why? Because I work on my trucks to much. So to cope I go in the shop and wrench. Then it dawned on me. I can afford the engine rebuild now. So what all should I do when I have the front clip apart to pull the engine? Should I keep the 72 or should I go back to factory and put my 69 grill on? Is it bad that I ain't to sad?

Re: Dumped
If it is any consolation, many of us have been there. Don't worry, you have plenty of time to find "the right one". I found mine at the age of 28, though I will admit that there was many a trial fit.

Noah is 18 so he has plenty of time to play the field for the right one . Who knows , he might come south someday and find him a Southern Belle .

Re: Dumped
In 2004 a best friend proposed to his GF. He had saved up a frew grand for a ring. The moment after he asked her, SHE DUMPED HIM.
"We should see other people" was her reply to his proposing. He was devastated. He told me he "basically stayed completely drunk for two weeks straight." Then he called me for advice. He wanted to put that money for the ring into kayaks and gear. I was supportive. He ended up going hard core and kayaked all over the place, very extreme stuff. He also got into ice climbing 100 foot tall frozen waterfalls. No joke, the guy really got out there and would climb 10,000 foot tall glaciers. After that he got into pretty serious firearms training and ended up a rifle instructor and got his manufacturing license so he could (legally) build machine guns for police departments. Here's a video of me shooting an M1919A4 he built and brought over to show my dad (my dad's machine gun in the army was an M1919). https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=D5XkkMi1p_o He's now co-owner of a gun store/machine gun manufacturer, and he's happily married to a MUCH BETTER GIRL. I knew the previous girlfriend and he's not out anything by her dumping him. In fact, just a year later she was trying to get him back but he wouldn't take her. *** Focus on you man. Fix your truck up. *Personally I'd go original....that's the look I want with my truck. Exercise. Get more fit. Exercise is a natural mood enhancer. Learn a new skill, something that can benefit you. Whatever you do, do not date for a while. You need time to heal and settle your emotions down a bit. |

Re: Dumped
I never cared for the 69-70. But I wonder why you're asking us. It's your truck. Would you want us to pick your next GF?

Re: Dumped
If you have a '69 grille already I would put that in to make it right. Some like this one better than the other one but all these trucks are hot, everybody likes them, and that '69 grille is nt going to make or break the end results of your completed build.
And look for a gal with long dark hair, green eyes, not too thin, dresses nicely yet casual, and has her own interests outside of being with a boyfriend!!

Re: Dumped
I prefer the 71/72 grill myself. You just need the one you like the best and go with it. A girl will come along when you're not expecting it. Just be yourself.

Re: Dumped
This is awesome. They say if it has t**s or tires it will give you troubles. At least you have it narrowed down to one or the other. Good luck on the project.

Re: Dumped
What kind of date were you going to go on where you can now pay for an engine rebuild? The best date I've ever taken my wife on would barely pay for a new intake

Re: Dumped
If it's a '69 put in a 69-70 grill...If it was a 72 put in a 71-72 grill...
I prefer the 69-70 because the 71-72 looks so generic... reminds me of the egg crate light diffusor you used to see on overhead lights... but I still like them both..enough to have both

Re: Dumped
I would use whichever one you like better, it’s all about you now. As far as getting dumped, I’ll tell you what my grandpa told me “ women are like Jeep’s and cats they are everywhere. Now go fix that fence!” Still shake my head at his philosophy at times

Re: Dumped
Dumped, that a strong word considering I just saw that you are 18.
She may have left you but you are in TRANSITION and will / should be there for a while. Lol Enjoy dating, you will find the right one or two, maybe get back with this one, that happens in life sometimes. Working on trucks, cars, in the garage or yard to most ladies is way better and cheaper than the Strip clubs in the long run, at least they know where you are. Remember: TRANSITION. Oh, yes the 72 grille. |

Re: Dumped
You are tough. You didn't cry when she dumped you. You asked about the grille. I think your truck will be a 71/72 wannabee unless you do everything '72 on it. I'm being blunt. I'm only me, but that's what I think. I always liked the 71/72 grille better. Heck, I always liked Chevy grilles better than GMCs... like forever. But it seems you see way more 71/72 Chevy grilles than GMC or 69/70. Way more than 67/68 till recent years. Well, when I see a super sharp truck now and realize it's a 69/70 or GMC it gives an extra kick. I start looking for the things they had that 71/72s didn't and it's cool to see it all together. That '70 Blazer in #14 is killer sharp!

Re: Dumped
Here's some advice I also gave my step-daughter, but I'll change it up a bit for a young male instead of a young woman.
"You absolutely have to have something to offer the relationship more than just your penis. You have to be self sufficient before you can take care of someone else. Have a job, a car and your own place. Be somebody and show you have a good future for the other to feel safe and secure with. Maybe it won't happen until your 20's, maybe even later. I met the woman I wanted to marry at 39. Don't rush it, and for sure, don't get a damn broad pregnant unless you want to ruin the next 20 years of your life!" |

Re: Dumped
cypressbog,
No kidding! I am 44 and just now seriously considering marriage. It took me that long to find someone I liked and trusted enough to get hitched to. Times are different in America and people don't take marriage vows seriously....there is also a "me first, you never" mentality in the country and people won't compromise to save a marriage. Now Deer Hunter here is only 18, geeze, what's he worried about? One semester in college I had 5 girlfriends, one after the other, all red heads too. |
